I wanted to give you an update on DD's little friend who was in the hospital with an ear infection gone bad, since you all were so sweet to send good thoughts. She came home about a week ago, and is doing better, but she has about three months of recovery ahead of her, and has to be pretty calm and still in her play. She still has blood clots in and near her brain, and is on blood thinners to break those up. So, tumbling and getting banged up like a typical 4.5 yo is super risky for her. She is still in a fair amount of pain, and gets tired easily, which turns her into a crankster. And I think we have all experienced the sick crankster - yeesh. So, she will be okay, but it will be a long road. All of her family's friends and neighbors have been trying to do whatever we can to help - we set up a meal train for the next few months, we've been taking art projects and craft supplies over a couple of times a week for "quiet playdates", long walks with her mom, donating funds when we can. But, her poor family has been through a trauma and I think it will be a long time before they can trust that things are okay, you know? We were over there yesterday, and my poor friend was just not herself. It had been a rough few days with a trip to the ER thrown in there, and there other day got a bad cough as well, and the stress was clear. Other than what we've been doing, and offering hugs and good thoughts and a listening ear, I am at a loss for what else to do. I feel so sad for our friends, for all they have been through, and for the fear that they will always carry with them.
Anyway, that's the update. The take away is that she will be okay. And they will too...it will just take time. Thanks for thinking of them!
Wow, it's good to hear that she'll be o.k. Thankfully they have the love and support of good friends like you to help them get through this difficult time. Sending continued positive thoughts for a quick and full recovery!
Such a hard situation for the little girl and her family. I hope that things continue to improve for them and that life feels less stressful soon. It sounds like she has a great group of friends/neighbors supporting her family.
