Are any of the teachers here on LinkedIn?
I am not, and in college, they never even so much as mentioned it to us. My state has a job bank website that publishes teaching jobs, so I never found it necessary to join, but I am looking at transitioning to more administrative professional type jobs in education and possibly in universities, so I am thinking that maybe I should join. However, I don't think many people in education are really on LinkedIn, so I will probably have 0 connections.
What do you think? Would it be beneficial? Are any of the teachers here on it and has it helped you make connections for new jobs?
I am on LinkedIn but haven't gotten anything out of it. I do connect iwth some of my professors from school, and it's cool to see what they are up to career-wise, but I have made no personal gains from it.
I am looking to make a similar career shift and will have to see if this changes.
Since you said you're looking at more administrative type jobs LinkedIn may be helpful to you. When I was teaching, my connections who were active in conferences and publishing articles were active on LinkedIn. Also, it's good to have something other than Facebook come up when they Google you.

For me it's not about finding jobs. Job boards work in many cases for that. It's about maintaining connections to people I've met and networked with so when I do enter the job hunt I've stayed connected. When I go on accreditation visits or to conferences I network and end up maintaining the connections at least in a minor way on linked in.
