I am sorry I didn't catch this this first time you posted.
One of my best friends has a daughter with spina bifida who is 6 and doing awesome. She has had lots of PT and still has to cathaterize herself, but she is an awesome, thriving little girl.
Best of luck with the surgery. CHOP us a great place and I am sure you are in great hands.
Oh my gosh - that sounds stressful. I hope everything goes really smoothly and that you're able to get into RMH and that your family is able to stay with you. What kind of employer would fire you for missing more than 12 weeks for something like this?? That's deplorable.

I'm glad the amnio came back clear. That's good news, for sure.
Call the Ronald McDonald House and explain your situation. The house is actually quite a distance away from CHOP, but they run a shuttle. If they don't have an opening by the time you need it, they might be able to get your a reduced rate at the Sheraton, which is right across the street from the hospital. They did that for us when we were on the waiting list.
Good luck with all of it! Keep us posted. I'll be thinking of you.

Thanks for the tip! I left a voicemail at RMH, but I'll definitely call back. The CHOP website said RMH is 1.5 miles from the hospital, which is nothing in MT, so I'm glad to know the Sheraton is so close. Distances are so different in cities vs rural areas, especially without a car.
Sending you well wishes for the surgery and hospital stay.
Is there any chance that your co-workers can donate vacation time to cover some of your time off? They may surprise you and hold your job.
Good luck!
My employer allows donation, but my department would have to come up with the extra money. My supervisor hasn't allowed it in the past, but I think she might if it came from within the department. I'll just have to get over the awkwardness of asking.

I love stories like this! H & I both feel like we can deal with all this & ongoing issues as long as our daughter can be happy.

I thought you were talking to yourself for a second and was so confused.
caramia : That is great news that there are no abnormalities. You can ask me any question, any time, as I kinda have a lot of experience . I really hope everything goes smoothly for you and I'm glad you have a plan! I hope that your work allows you to take a FMLA leave of absence.

We stayed at the house when a room opened up. It would be about a 30-40 minute walk. The shuttle was our best bet, so we didn't have to deal with parking (the RMD house garage is very tight and on another street). I tried getting a cab one day, but the one I called never came, and it was rush hour and it took a long time to call one. If you leave the hospital late, you can have the security guard call the RMD house and they'll pick you up so you don't have to walk late at night or pay for a cab.
