I am usually on MMM but I have been lurking around here since we are TTC.
I've been having really strange cycles, since about June or July. One was super long (over 70 days), followed by a few short ones (15 days, 20 days), then 56 days, and the last two have been just short of 40 days.
I am switching OBs, because my previous OBGYN was super unhelpful (come back in 4 months if you're not pregnant) and the visit write up included information she did not consul me on (prescribing Provera to bring on my next cycle).
Anyway, my most recent period started March 16, and tapered off after 7 days. I continued to spot for another 5 days, and then started bright red flow again. FF isn't starting a new cycle for me, which I was expecting.
Do you think the new red flow should count as a new cycle or does it count as a super long period?
My initial appointment with my new OBGYN is tomorrow, but if anyone has had similar experiences with irregularity, any insight or advice is welcomed!
I once had a bleeding/spotting incident that lasted over 3 months. In hindsight, I count it all as one cycle. At the time I wasn't TTC or using FF and I didn't get an appt with my doc until it was almost over. It's convenient that you have an appt tomorrow so you can ask how your OB thinks you should count it. good luck!
I don't have any experience with that form of irregularity. Mine are (were?) usually just really long. I hope that your new doctor can help you figure it out.
Thanks everyone. I had a great appointment with the new OB today. He was very thorough and suspects that I have a uterine fibroid (at least, that's what I think he said, I was flooded w/ info). He's planning on doing a D&C in the next few weeks to clear it out, and also to "reset" my lining as it's pretty thick, thicker than he'd like after 2+ weeks of bleeding and spotting.
Strangely enough, FF put me at 5 DPO after I entered my temp today. That means we actually had decent timing, and I did see a little bit of an LH surge, though it wasn't a definite positive. The also saw follicles on my ovaries during the u/s, so he's confident that I am ovulating on my own and won't need any help in that area.
He didn't get a great look at the fibroid due to the thick lining, and said to call back if the bleeding stops this week so they can do another u/s to know for sure. But, if it doesn't stop, then they'll proceed with the D&C.
So, any advice for the D&C? How long did you need for recovery? I'm thinking of scheduling on a Thursday since that is the OB's elective surgery day, so I'll have Fri-Sun to recover.
Regarding the d&c, it was not bad at all. My appointment was really early so I stopped eating and drinking after dinner. I went back to the pre-op area and changed. They hooked me up to an IV. The nurse gave me a numbing shot beforehand so I felt nothing when they put in the IV. Then, they allowed my husband to come back. Doctors came by and briefly talked about the procedure. I walked back to the OR. I laid down, they connected the heater to my gown, and I was out. No warning. The procedure took less than eleven minutes. I woke up in a recovery area. Eventually, I changed and they wheeled me to the car. At home, I took it easy that day and watched a few movies. I wasn't in any pain. I had spotting and light bleeding for a week. My doctor wanted me to take antibiotics. That part was the worse. My stomach did not like the antibiotics. I had the procedure on Friday and felt physically fine the next day. I still rested. I have heard some women need another day to recover. You should be fine if you schedule it for a Thursday.
