She never will. I wouldn't. She has a child with this man. For fuck's sake, LRH kidnapped his own kid and kept her in a cage. I think Katie's exit from that marriage was incredibly delicate and well-planned, and I don't think she has any plans to rile anyone up anytime soon.
I know she won't and I don't think she should because she has to protect her daughter. I just am insanely curious about how she managed to pull it off. She kind of was the start of the unravel I think for the public to start to realize how nuts the church actually is. They will never release their membership numbers but I seriously doubt they are getting a ton of new followers. Eventually the money will run out as well.
They said in the documentary that their current membership is 50,000. They didn't say what the numbers were at the height, but they indicated that this is much lower than it used to be. I would assume they got the numbers from the former higher-up dudes who've left.
My impression is that John Travolta would leave if he could, but they have too much on him. But I think Tom Cruise is 100% into the crazy.
I was thinking about this. John Travolta- he publicly supports the church but he doesn't SPEAK OUT the way Tom does. It does kind of make me wonder if John would get out if he could but because he feels he can't, he just does what he needs to in order to keep the peace. Where as Tom does what he does because, well, he's totally into the crazy.
Just seeing his demeanor when going up on stage, saluting David, etc... it just made me feel weird.
John doesn't seem to do any of that. He just stays quietly in the background.

I feel bad for John, if he is in fact being practically blackmailed. Nobody deserves it, especially when it's coming from a "church". I can't imagine how hard that would be.
Wasn't tom cruise the one who belittled brooke shields because he had "medical training" and she didn't and tried to tell her not to take antidepressants for ppd? Was that just his machismo or was it related to scientology?

It's related to scientology. Scientology is very against psychiatry; all psychiatrists and mental-health professionals are considered Suppressive Persons.
Scientology views psychiatry as brutal and unspiritual, and the practices of things like medication and other medical treatments barbaric.
They also think that by using psychiatric drugs you are not curing the underlying problem only masking it and using any medication only perpetuates the issue.

Most likely because if anyone visited a therapist or psychiatrist, they'd realize that Scientology's auditing is similar to common therapy techniques - which would cost a hell of a lot less money. So, easier to say therapy is the devil and must be avoided at all costs.
In the beginning when they were talking auditing (what is essentially talk therapy) I was thinking, "This isn't so bad. Why does Scientology get such a bad rap?" And then they explained the other 95% of the "religion". Ohhhhhhhhh. I see.
I could totally be a Scientologist if I could stop at level 1 and just do a couple auditing sessions. OR......like a PP said, save money and just see a shrink! :-P
So does Tom Cruise not see Suri anymore??
I've wondered this too. I think one of his other children just left scientology within the last month.

According to one of the tabloid covers at the grocery store yesterday, he hasn't seen Suri for months. (Don't know how much truth there is to that.)
I'm way late, but I just watched this the other day.
Holy shit, I did not know all of the stuff in this documentary. It was eye-opening. They are an evil, abusive organization that fucking needs to pay their taxes and be put out of business. The part where the mother talked about disconnecting from her daughter was heartbreaking.
I just watched this on Sunday. A lot of it wasn't new for me, I remember reading some of it in this article posted on here (or the nest) years ago www.newyorker.com/magazine/2011/02/14/the-apostate-lawrence-wright. But it was interesting to see all the footage of those award show things they put on.
I didn't realize they went as far as they did with the IRS, but it wasn't shocking.
I teared up when the mother was talking about disconnecting from her daughter.
It was sad to hear that the children who were separated from their parents were being neglected. You would assume that "the church" would like children because they are essentially groomed from birth to be devote followers of LRH.
How about the part where it got into how Tom Cruise's adopted children were pursuaded to to turn on Nicole and she was seen as nothing but a threat? Scary shit.
Did anyone catch the latest SNL? They did a spoof on the documentary which was pretty entertaining.
I would love it if Katie Holmes did a tell all interview. I really want to hear about how she was able to get out. I remember reading somewhere that she was using burners like on the Wire to call her dad and also she talked to Nicole Kidman to basically find out every tactic that the "church" used to fuck her over.
I am also really interested in regular people who get lured in by Scientology. The celebrities make sense to me somewhat, anyone who actively pursues or finds fame probably has some narcissism and from everything I have seen and read the church just feeds that. However, I don't really get what lures in regular people to spend all that money.
They get people when they are vulernable or down. Troll campuses and get kids were big fish in little ponds and now are little fish in big ponds. It happened to a friend in college. It was awful. She was in it for probably 20 years or more. How she finally got out I don't know, I haven't asked her but she suddenly messaged me on Facebook. This is an extremely intelligent and talented woman - musically, athletically talented. One of those people that can do anything they try. She was very trusting and they lured her in as a freshman. Broke her parents hearts.

Creepy. The radio DJ I'm listening to just started talking about Tom and not seeing Suri.
I have a theory that Miscavige and Cruise are both benefitting from the income Scientology brings in. Neither of them are really drinking the kool aid, but are willing to pretend for the sake of the money. H thinks Tom believes it all and Miscavige is using Tom. Either way, it's insane.
The whole time I was watching, my jaw was on the ground. I think I started laughing when they were explaining Xenu and the prison planets. I couldn't help it. It was just so insane.

I wondered if Miscavige has a thing for Tom Cruise. Those handshakes, among other things, were supper intense. He was also crazy (and I think jealous) when Tom was with Nicole Kidman and really stepped away from the church.

Did you see the part where they showed all the shit that Scientology has bought for Cruise? Cruise is an arrogant asshole and will never leave scientology. He's as dirty and guilty of the abuse as Miscavige.
Not really related but I clicked on a TMZ link where John Travolta addressed the documentary. I didn't care to read it but at the bottom it listed Celebrity Scientologists and Laura Prepon was included.
This is really going to affect our lesbian marriage.
not that it makes that much of a difference, but I think she was born into it. Same with Beck.
