My grandma had a similar surgery in February 2014 and she is now cancer free. She was 80 and her hospital stay was a bit longer than anticipated but she's doing really well now.
That is great. We were hoping he would have the surgery done in Ottawa, as it's much closer, but because of his Quebec health card he had to travel to Montreal for it. Not ideal but I'm sure he's in good hands. My uncle went with them and is staying at the hotel with my Grandma so she isn't alone. They told him to expect a 2-4 day hospital stay. I have a feeling it will be longer.

At our hospital, it's an automatic overnight ICU admission and then they step down to the regular floor. I think they had told her 5-7 days. She ended up in the hospital for maybe 3 weeks? But almost 10 days or so of that was in a rehab/stepdown type unit that just has PSW to prepare people to go home.

Thoughts and prayers for your grandfather. My mother had a lower lobectomy (I'm drawing a blank on the name of the procedure, but it was 4 small incisions). She was discharged from the hospital 2 1/2 days later (but with a drainage tube). The 1st few days were rough, but she worked really hard to get moving and do her breathing exercises and it made a huge difference in her recovery. I wish him a speedy recovery as well.
