Anyone else with GD have to take injections? I found out yesterday that the doc didn't like my numbers, so I had to go in for training on how to give myself insulin injections. I did it last night in the thigh and it burned. A Google search told me to keep it room temp instead of in the fridge (after it's opened), so this morning it was more comfortable. I'm a bit overwhelmed that I have to give myself 2 shots per day (one before breakfast and one before dinner) as well as poking my finger 4 times per day to check my blood sugar. Trying to be positive that it's a temporary inconvenience and it will all be worth it in the end.
Have you already tried oral meds? I had a pretty bad case (in that my numbers were refusing to go down with diet and low-dose meds), but my doctor had about six steps we'd try (various dosing of glyburide and then glyburide with Metformin) before going on to insulin.
Good luck. That doesn't sound fun, but it will go by fast.

When I asked about oral meds, my doc said "we don't do those", ugh! I wish they would have given me another option before going straight to injections.
Luker chiming in. I had GD and ended up with 5 injections per day and all the sugar checks. It was hard but definitely got easier. I had to do them in my stomach, no experience with the thigh. Hang in there, it'll get better!!
