You know Amazon's dangerously convenient "Buy now with 1-Click" button? The company just announced the physical manifestation of that 1-click feature: the Dash Button.
amazon.com
Whenever you tap the Dash Button, various household items are automatically reordered through Amazon Prime and sent to your home.
So if you’re out of say, diapers, you’d tap your Huggies Dash Button and expect a package to arrive within 48 hours.
Don’t worry about button-happy babies ordering 112 units of paper towels. After the Dash Button is tapped the second time (or more) within a short period, you’ll receive a smartphone notification and Amazon will require a confirmation to proceed.
You can select a preferred pack size through the Amazon Shopping app. It’s a wifi-enabled, USB drive-sized gadget with an adhesive back that can stick or hang just about anywhere in your house.
Right now, the Dash Button only works with 18 different brands.
The Dash Button is launching with Huggies, Tide, Bounty, Gillette, Olay, Glad, Clorox wipes, Cottonelle, Gerber Formula, Larabar, Kraft Mac and Cheese, Maxwell House Coffe, Gatorade, Izze, Smartwater, L’Oreal Paris, and Wellpet Pet Food.
The program is exclusive to Amazon Prime members and the devices are available by invite only.
Soon, a similar Amazon-powered technology called the “Dash Replacement Service” will be built into appliances like Whirlpool washing machines that will automatically reorder related items (like detergent) on your behalf.
Brita water pitchers will eventually reorder their own filters.
Pour over coffee machines like this one from Quirky will reorder its own artisanal coffee beans.
Brother printers will reorder their own ink cartridge.
These products will hit the market later this year, but you can sign up to get an Amazon Dash Button right now.

If this stops me from running out of dish soap, laundry soap, and face wash they can have my social security number, blood type, kidney in a bathtub full of ice and first born. I always forget stuff at the store. This is my flying car. This would really make my life easier and be "the future" to me. If they include a tampon shipment on the day before my cycle they can have my other kidney, too.
I saw this this morning and quickly concluded that in five years, there is nothing I will buy that won't come from Amazon. Already more than half of my online purchases that aren't fabric related come from them.
Subscribe and save is only the best thing ever, especially for diapers, wipes, dog food, paper towels, and toilet paper.
I don't know if anyone posted- did you see Amazon offers services now, too?
Amazon Home Services is a new and simple way to buy and schedule professional services such as furniture assembly, house cleaning, and lawn care directly on Amazon. We've handpicked the best service providers in your neighborhood and require all service pros to be background checked, insured, and licensed if applicable. Service pros compete for your business based on price, quality, and availability. If customers find a lower price for the same service and pro, we will match it. Pre-packaged services have upfront prices so you can add a service right to your cart. No special sign up or subscription is required. Your Amazon account is only charged after the service is completed. And best of all, all services are backed by Amazon’s Happiness Guarantee. If you’re not 100% satisfied, Amazon will make it right or give you a full refund.

For me, it's razor blades, shaving cream and moisturizer.
If anything ever happens to my husband, I need this for TP. He always keeps every bathroom fully stocked. I haven't thought about TP since 2002.

Whut. You mean I can have a housekeeper come in when DH is at work and it'll show up like a regular ol' Amazon purchase on my CC bill? I am going to be the Best Wife Ever.

i've been less than thrilled with amazon lately. I'll admit I'm spoiled. It just seems like more often I'm orders that don't ship same day (even ordering in the morning), so a 2 day wait turns into 3+.
Also the subscribe & save feature is continually getting downgraded. Now they charge you pretty early (like a week before shipping it seems??) and then they are delivered slow mail. You only get a reminder to verify your subscriptions or make changes with like 2 days notice....
I can't believe this is real. It has to be an April Fool's Joke. On the other hand, I did click the link for an invitation. I fully expect my "What a CHUMP!" e-mail tomorrow. lol!

I think the April fools guesses are right on, but I do think this will be a real thing- including the printers/Brita filters auto-ordering- in the near future.
thanks @mrsbecky @majorwife - I just haven't been on here too much since I found out! Traveling like crazy for work & freaking about about another spawn
Never, ever want to run out of coffee, toilet paper, razors or trash bags again? Amazon has a button for you.
The online behemoth launched Amazon Dash on Tuesday. Although that was one day before April Fools', it actually is a real product, the company says.
Dash is a small oval electronic device about the size of a pack of gum. Each one comes emblazoned with the name of a different, frequently used-up, product.
Press the button and the device uses Wi-Fi to send a message to your Amazon account, automatically ordering a new stock of whatever you're about to run out of.
The buttons mount using an adhesive strip on the back or a plastic clip.
You can set the buttons via Amazon's mobile shopping app and assign the specific products and amounts you want from each click.
That click also sends a message to your phone, giving you a 30-minute window to cancel.
However many times an inquisitive toddler or pet might click the button, only one order will be sent at a time.
"Amazon Dash is Jeff Bezos' latest 'I want it now' convenience stratagem," said Richard Doherty, director of consulting firm The Envisioneering Group.
So far there are Dash buttons for coffee, detergent, razors, toilet paper, diapers, wipes, juice, dog food, trash bags, macaroni and cheese and napkins, among other items. A full list is available on the site.
Currently the Dash buttons are being sent only to Amazon Prime members who request them, and then by invitation only.

I didn't read this thread yesterday, so when I logged on to Amazon this morning I immediately thought it was an April Fools joke. I still think it might be and they're just running the long con on us.

But really, how hard is it to just order from your phone? And aren't they concerned that consumers won't be browsing and making impulse buys anymore? And who needs Kraft mac and cheese so desperately that they have to have an emergency button for it? Make one for Annie's white cheddar and we'll talk.
If I used Amazon for frequent household products, I might use something like that, but for me right now Amazon is for stuff I want not so much as need.
