Deval Patrick used it to describe the Big Dig, as in (I don't mean to imply this a direct quote, just a paraphrase) "The Big Dig was the country's penultimate construction project." No. It wasn't.
You, personally, called out the Governor of Massachusetts? He was describing the Big Dig, an enormous construction project of paramount importance to the state, and you interrupted the Governor. Of Massachusetts. To give him a vocabulary lesson?
Suuuure.
Thank you. Holy shit, this was driving me bananas.
This entire "so-and-so CAUSED it" shit is getting embarrassing (TM Que?)
soddi defense
Back in the day, my boss used to say SODDI* defense and I thought it was a name of a defendant who successfully argued that someone else had committed the crime, in a landmark case. You know, like Miranda rights? "He used the Soddi defense."
I'm pretty sure I'm still living this down at the office, more than 20 years later.

*Some Other Dude Did It
I never heard that one.
It took me far too long to figure out what the Circular File is.
EMAIL! ETA If I implied that I interrupted his interview to correct him, I apologize. After the interview was over, I emailed him. Which might actually be worse I think, because I had time to consider how psycho my action might sound, and still did it anyway!
Like, you emailed his general public email account to inform him he used a word wrong? Or you know him personally and chose to inform him of his mistake? Two quite different scenarios, I need clarification lol.
OMG I'm sorry I said anything! I heard an interview on local radio. He used the word incorrectly. I emailed him at his dot gov address after the interview that he had used the word incorrectly, that this was a pet peeve of mine, and xyz is the correct useage. I ended with (this was the part I considered lectury) something along the lines of "Obviously, the Big Dig was not Boston's next to last construction project." Sheesh. No, I do not personally know him (although I have met him but he would not know me by name or face). I suspect my email address got onto some list, though, aka "Blocked."

I can't wait for the day when I'm no longer fired up about the shitty things politicians are trying to do to our country that I can be bothered to send them emails about their grammar.

I'm retired. I have time for allllll the emails.
I'm cranky. My kid didn't sleep last night.
Please send Mike Pence an email on his understanding of the word "discrimination."
