Both something delicious and/or refreshing for mom-I loved getting candy and gourmet cupcakes and fresh fruit, starbucks is always nice too . And of course a little something for baby
ETA I also felt like I was starving and wolfed down all the treats my friend brought including trader joes chocolate covered raisins
My friend recently gave birth and she loved the fresh fruit and itzbeen timer (tells you how long it's been since baby has eaten, had a diaper change etc) I brought her. I brought a soft muslin blanket for baby.
I usually only bring gifts for the mom. My go-to is stopping at Whole Foods and getting an assortment of snacks and buy one of the mini reusable shopping bags to put it all in. Hummus, mix raw veggies of the salad bar Pita chips or rice crackers Morning Glory muffins A good apple/fruit A nice dark chocolate bar And a hot coffee
I would have missed someone who brought me a good coffee in the hospital. I sent dh on a hint and he came back empty handed, it was terrible. That said a good snack or gift card for a future lunch would be awesome. I'd also brig die thing for the baby, it would depend on if it was the first or second (etc) baby though.

My friend brought me Pizza Hutt and it was pretty amazing. I had been craving that the whole pregnancy and never got it (the nearest Hutt is an hour from my house but only 15m from the hospital). I would say healthy snacks for mom or a good moisturizer would be good ideas. Or chocolate. I wouldn't do anything extra for the mom to take home and would maybe save the baby's gift for when you visit at home so they don't forget it at the hospital or have to lug it home.
My best friend walked in with a triple shot latte and I almost kissed her on the lips. Bring good coffee for mom. She also brought a small platter of Italian cookies and fresh fruit. Which I was devouring at 3am when I couldn't sleep. I suggest either of those
I bring a snack basket for mom and dad and a small gift for baby. If there are older siblings I also bring gifts for them. Things like coloring books & crayons
