I googled. Not safe, not legal in US and I doubt anyone uses one. The ride safer travel vest is legal and safe However if you're looking for a compact travel harness
What she said. They aren't safe. The bubble bum booster is another safe travel seat.
I was discussing in a local FB group how it's not a good idea to buy used car seats (most of which are being sold for between $30-100), and one mom was all "well some people can't afford...." and I looked on Amazon for convertible car seats just to show they can be bought new for about $50, and I saw these things....

This drives me nuts. I have heard this before too from people who haven't unexpectedly hit hard times. Your child's safety is really where you want to decide your money isn't well spent?? I'm talking people who do things like eat out frequently. Skipping even just 1 meal out can buy you 2 Costco sceneras.
I honestly think some people have it in their head that they'd rather have certain seats (Britax, Chicco) and a used one is better than a "cheap" seat.

Yup. Hav tried several times to convince me that her used britax was safer than a brand new lower end seat. Nope, not true for a lot of reasons!
I've seen those but I really thought they were for eating out, easier eating at the kitchen table, etc...Can't imagine anyone would use one in the car. Seriously??

In other countries with much more lax car seat safety laws, I absolutely believe people would use those

Someone on one of those fb sites was looking for a used car seat. I posted an FYI that it wasn't safe, some reputable links explaining why, and a link for the cosco scenera. A whole group of people completely jumped down my throat (of course who were trying to sell used car seats) saying you can't believe everything you read on the Internet, get off your high horse, yadda yadda. Girl still bought one of the used seats for a measly $5 less than a Scenera even after all the reasons why it wasn't a safe choice. People suck.

I think they're probably better than nothing so people would use them in cabs to/from the airport when they wouldn't otherwise bring a car seat and you don't legally need one. You can probably use them on planes, too, I know they have harnesses for plane seats.
I can't imagine anyone buying this in place of a regular seat. At least not in the US where there are specific laws.
I have a link to a crash test with them somewhere. They do absolutely nothing to protect a child and they cannot be used on airplanes as they're not FAA approved. They've been reported to Amazon tons of times But somehow still show up. They might make a good booster seat at the dinner table but who even knows if they have been safety tested for lead etc.
