First, what type of detergent do you use? We have hard water, and i have read that that can be an issue, but i don't even know what kind to start with. Also, what diaper.cream do you use? And none of this "cloth is sooooo great he wont get a rash" business. I need to know in case he does.
The bum genius say line dry only. I don't have a clothes line and its dusty as hell here. Can i do a no heat tumble dry? I guess i could hang them in the bathroom if i need to
Most of the covers/shells will come out of the wash nearly dry. I used to hang them and dry all my inserts. IKEA makes this cute foldable octopus with 16 clips and it folds up, it's all clothes pins.
The thirsties newborn inserts seem to be thicker. Do I just fold the bigger inserts to use them then? He's little. The diaper will be as small as it can possibly be. I don't know if it will fit.
Ooh! Another question. Can I use powder? Homeboy has rather large cajones, lol. I have been powdering a little on warmer days because otherwise he's getting red on the underside. Can I still do that?
We use original tide powder. A little goes a long way.
We were good in the beginning but now just throw the shells and everything into the dryer. We haven't had a problem yet. But we just bought a sweater rack to hang them on when we did.
We use cjs butter as a cream (love the stick!) but if she gets really bad, we just use disposables with something stronger. We use disposables overnight, so we always have them on hand.
we use tide powder. we also dry in the dryer. 2u2 in CDs? Ain't no one got time for line dry. Our diapers are fine and don't leak at all (We use exclusively BG 4.0) i'll just disclose it when I sell them on craigslist. I'm not worried about it.
Add me to the dry in the dryer list. I do a low heat and not a super long cycle, because I finish washing with a spin cycle that gets them pretty close to dry. I will sometimes dry them outside in the summer, but that's more to let the sun bleach them than anything else.
If DD gets a bad rash I usually put her in disposables and use the strong stuff. If it's just a little redness I'll do what others have suggested above.
I use fleece scraps as liners and use desitin or dr smiths cream for rash, but typically coconut oil is fine. I hang dry on a drying rack and dry the inserts in high so they dry faster. Overnight is usually long enough and I stuff them in the morning.
