There is a lot of "Poor Jamie" and "Poor Claire". I like how Diana Gabaldon really hits some of the hard scenes. In an interview she talked about how someone asked "How could you do that to Jamie? (The rape scene)". She said that she just writes what she sees happens, and not everything is good. Same as life. What I like is how it shows how the characters are more than just an author's creation but their own people
I'm moving slowly. Jamie just came back from what I'm assuming was the 1700s version of a strip club.
I'm still 100% into it, but nothing worth freaking out over is happening at the mo.
ETA: Also, I love little Fergus and the Mother at the hospital. Oh, that's just from my silly friend Bach. lol
I don't get people who say that the stuff in France is boring. Whaaaaaaaat?? Versailles, Fergus, the Hopital des Anges, Monsieur Raymond... what's not to like?

I think it seems like it's never going anywhere. If I re-read, I would probably have more patience, but the first time I was just like "nothing is happening!" And I do/did like Fergus and Mother.

I am reading this series for the first time and I am at the part taking place in France. I feel like I should think it is interesting but for some reason I don't. The Claire/Jamie relationship is just not doing it for me in Paris like it was in Outlander when they were in Scotland. I am not sure why...
Yes, no question that 1-3 must be read all in a row. Then you can take a break before the relative slog of 4 and 5.
I immediately started 3 and like it so far (100 pages in) I am disappointed that after this book most people think they get kind of dull and repetitive because I really ended up liking book 2 once they got out of Paris and 3 is shaping up to be good.
