Fairy tales do not tell children the dragons exist. Children already know that dragons exist. Fairy tales tell children the dragons can be killed. - G. K. Chesterton
I'll also just say this here for the benefit of new people and lurkers, though I know I'm preaching to the choir since you guys are the people who told me to do it - if you know you need paint soon but haven't chosen colors yet - buy it now, and then just bring it back to get tinted when you're ready. They do not blink at this at all. Totally normal practice.
To wawa's PSA, I'll add that if you are using a contractor, check with them and see if it's cheaper for you to buy it with a coupon or for them to buy it for you. If they have a SW account, they get a discount (varies by contractor, it's not a set percentage).
What type of paint do you prefer to use from Sherwin Williams? I usually use Behr. I did a price comparison the other day and it looked like if I got the kind with primer that it would be about the same as Behr. However, thanks to the coupon above that will help.
Also thanks for the tip to just buy paint and tint later. How long of a window do you have to do this? (How long will the product keep for?)
Also, any tips for painting over multiple paint layers and wallpaper from the 50's or painting over painted wood paneling?
We should start a post with all the colors we are planning to buy and what we will do with them.

the bolded - ummm...I wouldn't? I'd strip it. Are you saying it's wallpaper with multiple layers of paint already on it? Painting over paneling you'll probably want a separate primer to really make sure you're getting good adhesion. But others will have better advice.
As for how long the product keeps - we just took our 2nd to last batch of paint to get tinted, ummm...2.5 years after we bought it. That is probably past the recommended time frame? But no issues so far and the guy at the store didn't say anything about it. So you've got a pretty solid grace period.
As for type, I have a habit of being KTFU when painting, so we bought the Harmony so I could use it without paranoia. I have no opinions on the others, but I've seen most of their lines except the HGTV one get raves.
stellarose I've used SW duration in a couple of rooms and been very happy with it. I've also used the pro classic on a piece of furniture and it worked really well.
Thanks pumpkin and wawa. That's what I'm thinking about the old wall paper, it could be a disaster. Yes, it is wall paper with who knows how many coats of paint on it. I asked DH if we could just restrict all down bc there is no insulation in those walls either. Buuuut that is a big project for a later day. Maybe I skip painting that room, but it was going to be one of my favorite colors!
I picked up five gallons today and the employee said he would swap the bases if needed, though I tried to get what I was thinking of choosing color wise. DH thought it was silly to buy it now, but we are now set for the sewing room closet, sewing room, DS's room and closet, and the ugly pink bathroom. So basically the rooms DS and and I have all say in. The battle for the open concept first and second floors will commence in a few months.
How often do they have these sales? I wont need the paint for about a month and I'm not even sure which color I want. Could I buy a base and have them add the color later?

Yes. ETA: sale is almost every holiday. If not 40 it will be 30% off during memorial day sale.
