I'm terrible with most plants. TERRIBLE. I water it too much or don't water enough, give it too much sunlight or not enough. I need something pretty easy that won't need too much work and I can keep around my dogs without too much worry.
"Why would you ruin perfectly good peanuts by adding candy corn? That's like saying hey, I have these awesome nachos, guess I better add some dryer lint." - Nonny
I've had one of these for more than a year and I haven't killed it yet. And I'm normally terrible. I can forget to water it for a loooong time and it will lose one leaf.
Bamboo....you can practically grow it in cement. I kill most everything, but my bamboo that I got about 6 years ago is still living in it's rack garden.
Peace Lilys are poisonous. So if you have dogs or cats that like to eat them I wouldn't go that route.
I had a palm tree that lived like 10 years. It got huge and the last time we moved we just left it. It makes me sad because we have the perfect home for it now.

Christmas Cactus. We had one that lived for YEARS and I don't remember it being low maintenance.
Mine didn't last a year.
I like my peace lily, rubber plant (it seems to prefer the low light rooms) and those umbrella trees seem to be pretty hardy. Oh and the bamboo, those refuse to die
I have a Christmas cactus that is half dry, and a spider plant that has some fuzzy white mold growing in the soil. So my answer is that if you try really hard, you can kill pretty much anything.

Good to know!
Ah, wait, reading fail... ZZ plants are also poisonous. Sorry; I don't have pets or kids, so I wasn't thinking of that part.
Air plants! I am a horrible plant-killer, but I can keep air plants alive easily.
what are air plants?
They're plants that aren't planted in dirt. I have them sitting in globe-shaped things hanging in my kitchen window, kind of like this:
I water mine once a week by soaking them in a bowl for about 20 minutes. I've had them for a couple years now - other plants have only survived a few months in my house.

This thread inspired me to water my aloe because it just sits on top of my bookshelf all neglected. I kind of pulled on one of the leaves (is that what they're called? Branches? Idk), and the whole frigging thing was just, like, not even in the soil. The root part was just sitting on top of the dirt. It's still alive! Lol. Can't kill that thing if I tried.

Those are so pretty! Do they need a lot of sun?
Yes, but indirect. Mine are hanging in western-facing windows (eta: the windows face another building, so the sun is partially blocked). Here's more info for anyone who is curious.
