I think you need to stop playing on the floor with your kids in the name of good jeans
But seriously, I'd buy a pair of cheaper jeans that still fit nice (which will just depend on your shape, etc) and I'd wear those for kid-time during the day and then I'd keep a pair of good jeans when you aren't going to be on the floor.
Date night jeans! I can get down with that. Hopefully that would be an incentive to get out more often than the 3x a year we're at right now

I got a pair of joe's and had no idea that was a designer brand. I don't even think I knew they were a brand until I saw my sister who saw the jj and was shocked I'd spend money on such a thing. They were $40 on clearance at anthropologie. I wore those things every damn day for 4 years. They're still in decent shape although they've certainly faded.
I finally got a 2nd pair at nordstrom rack for about $60. They had lots of other brands for less than half. I doubt they'll hold up as well b/c they're a thinner lighter material, which is what I wanted for living in Hawaii.
I just remembered - I do technically own a pair of premium denim. It's an old pair of my uncle's jeans that he chopped into shorts and then either grew too skinny or too fat to actually wear. I'm honestly not sure which. But through some weird magic, they fit me.
G*Star Raw. Fancy. But after who knows how many years of ownership from him and going on 3 years of heavy summer use from me they are still in perfect shape. Except for the missing legs.
For those of you with designer jeans, are they thicker than cheap jeans? Before I had kids my Buckle jeans lasted a long time, but I didn't do much in them except sit in a chair or walk around. Now I'm on the floor a lot and it didn't take but a few months to wear holes in the knees of every pair I own. I'd get 1 nice pair but I don't know if they'll hold up being worn like that, especially if I don't own very many pairs. WDYT?

I would agree. Nice jeans are like for going out - being seen by people other than your kids.
Most of my nicer jeans are thinner material. I like them thin and stretchy. The one pair that I had that was thicker material were the Joe's (not all Joe's are thicker - just this particular pair) and they got holes in them w/in 6 months. I was not happy about that at all. My thinner pairs have all lasted a lot longer than that. I think that pair of Joe's was defective though.
Most of my jeans have held up really well. Thickness depends on the style. Most of my True Religions, besides the skintight jegging-type pair, are pretty thick. I would say most of mine are a fairly medium weight. And the only pair I have that has holes in them had holes in them when I bought them, lol. To be fair, though, I have a lot of jeans, so while I wear some more than others, I don't wear any of them all the time.
One thing I love about my premium jeans is the length. I'm tall, with most of my height being in my legs (very short torso), and all of my premium jeans are long enough!
Do the expensive jeans really last longer? I wear jeans a lot and they wear out in the thighs after about 6 months. (stupid chub rub). Will the expensive ones really be worth it? Will they last longer?
yes, absolutely, but don't put them in the dryer!!!
I have a few pairs of Paige Premium Denim jeans that I bought before I got married--so at least 6 years ago--and they look almost new.
(Of course, they're also kind of out of style by now, but since I'm too fat for them right now it doesn't matter anyway. )
I don't dry anything like that, b/c I am terrified of shrinkage. A 1/2 inch makes a difference when you suffer from PTSD for wearing floodwater pants in your youth.

so true....things only a tall girl can fully appreciate!
Denim is supposed to be durable - what's this about no dryer?!?!?!?!?
I actually learned this on Saturday from the saleslady at Nordstroms. Apparently the dryer heat does serious damage to the elasticity and then they actually get baggier. All this time I was putting my cheap jeans in the dryer hoping they'd shrink.

Even on low heat? Geez, I should just stop drying anything.
They sell 7 at BCF if you have one near you. You have to get them on a good day before they are gone, but I can get them for $30 or less there. I also love the way True Religion jeans fit on me.

. how do you keep them from being stiff and wrinkly?

the fluff cycle on the dryer--no heat. I always run all my air dried clothes on fluff cycle for about 15min once they are dry. It get lint off of them and gets rid of most of those air dried wrinkles.

I wash mine cold, inside out, line dry. The stiffness goes away quickly. The dryer will kill your jeans. I wash only my jeans together and no more than 3-4 pairs. Front loader. I Would do gentle cycle with a top loader. Only wash every few wears.

I dry my jeans like they're tube socks. They fade faster but have held up well. I have Joe's and 7s. When I got the 7s a few years ago, they were super boot cut and when they kind of went out of style in the last couple of years, I spent $30 to have a tailor trim the wide boot to a slight boot and I still rock them. So worth it. In fact, since straight looks better on me, I am thinking about getting them cropped and pinned so they are more like a skinny crop. For my initial investment and 2 $30 visits to the tailor, I've had 3 pairs of 7s
