We went shopping this weekend and my traitor kid made me try on real jeans that cost actual monies.
She marched right up to the sales lady and asked for my size and before you know it I was trying on jeans with price tags that made me think that I really should have more in my savings before I tried them on.
But try I did and damned if they don't make all the difference in the world.
Why don't $30 jeans at American Eagle do the same thing that Miss Me, and 7 did...WHY?? I couldn't pull the trigger because the price tag killed me.
So is it worth having one pair of killer jeans that you have to wear all the time, or three pair of blah jeans??
Although what I do is stock up on killer jeans (I'll buy one or two a year, they last a while if you care for them properly, so I usually have a few I can rotate) but then I'll buy cheaper jeans to keep on hand (maybe a pair or two) that I don't mind ruining or getting dirty - for doing stuff around the house (painting, etc).
Currently I have none of these killer jeans though bc I was at the point where I needed to re-stock so to speak and then I got pregnant, and now I"m hoping I won't be this size for very long so I refuse to buy new jeans. I am not happy though lol. I miss my good jeans.

I did the same thing this weekend. I finally decided on a pair of Kut From The Kloth jeans for $75 that I love. It still isn't cheap but it's still about half the price of some of the others that I tried on and the fit is TOTALLY worth it, they're so much better than my Kohl's jeans.

Consignment stores can be good for designer jeans. I've found some really great jeans for $30-50. But my favorite jeans are Lucky and Pilcro, which are in the $125 range. I tend to wear a pair of jeans out, and I wear them all.the.time, reducing my "cost per wear.
I've really noticed in my wardrobe in general that the things I spend $$ on actually last. I've got $50-$75 sweaters from 10 years ago that are still in perfect condition.
One pair of killer jeans. Like pp mentioned, check consignment stores or sales. At a recent sale I picked up two pairs of 7s. One was $15 and the other was $30. Both look new :-)
I may not know what kickass means I love Express jeans and I know they arent high end but they are still pricey to me so I buy them only when they are on sale. I also love Levi's.

Express jeans fit me better than any other damn jean around. Last time I made the mistake of taking DW shopping with me. Instead of getting the $60 pair that was already a stretch for the pocket book she convinced me to get the $120 pair because she said my ass looked good and at me. I thought for sure my $120 investment would get me laid, but sadly I was mistaken. It's back to their less expensive version next time.
Do the expensive jeans really last longer? I wear jeans a lot and they wear out in the thighs after about 6 months. (stupid chub rub). Will the expensive ones really be worth it? Will they last longer?

I was a gap girl before, and my AG jeans (which aren't even super expensive) do last longer than the gap.
Hmmm...I question your level of chub rub experience. Am I mistaken about your thigh size? (inner thighs are my jeans weak spot too. Either that or I rip out a belt loop from repeatedly tugging them back up. Theoretically the second failure mode would not be an issue in pants that actually fit me.)
MrsBecky - can we make a GTG date for one year from now (ish. gives me a solid 6 months to lose baby weight) to go on an epic jeans trying on adventure? I don't even know where to start, and you already promised to assess my ass.

Take this advice FWIW, as I have one pair of "good" jeans...a pair of 7's that I got at a consignment store. Yes, they do last longer. I wear mine all the time and even though they've faded a bit, and got a little fuzzy in certain places, they still look great. And the fading is not a "jeans I now only wear camping" sort of fading, but a "these jeans are so awesome I wear them all the time" sort of fading.
Plus they don't get all shrunk or stretched out in random places. I wash mine inside out on the delicate cycle.

CAn I jump in as well? THat gives me plenty of time to shape up from my adoption baby bump
So what brands are considered "kickass" jeans? I have been buying Loft jeans on sale for years, so I couldn't even venture a guess as to what a quality brand of jeans are...

I buy my jeans from Loft, Ann Taylor, and Express. They all fit me pretty well. And I'm sorry, I don't care how good my ass looks in a pair of $200 jeans, I simply can't buy it. $200 is my utility bill. I see all purchases over $100 for an item (other than say a coat) as a bill.
Wasn't that part of some article about habits you keep if you grew up poor or something? LOL
oh and that "long butt" blog post mentioned Express jeans as a good option. I like their editor pants for work clothes too and they even work well with my mommy lumps.

Sweet! Then I already wear kickass jeans! And I buy them when they are on sale!
We have a couple really good consignment shops in my town - I figured I could check them out for the good brands. I just don't know what the good brands are!

I think I need to hit up the consignment shop this weekend too. There is one by my massage envy that looked like it had some good stuff in there, just didn't take the time to go through.
I have premium denim that still is in fab shape from when I was in college! And that was like 10 years ago.
Anyway, check the sale sections of various department stores (Nordstrom, Saks, etc.) and a lot of times they'll have a few pairs on sale for ~$100-110 vs. the $170-200.
My favorite brands are Paige, Hudson, True Religion and 7FAM.
Oh and Piperlime is having a pre-fall sale (kind of like the Nordstrom Anniversary sale) and I think there are some jeans.
Some of the designer jeans wear better and some do not. I have one pair of Joe's that I actually paid full price for that did not wear well at all - got holes in the butt area after about 6 months of not a lot of wear (I never liked those jeans much anyway). But I have other pairs that I have had for a few years. I wear jeans every.single.day - my workplace is casual.
My favorite brands have been Hudson and AG. I had a pair of Goldsign once that I adored and wore till I got holes in the patches. But they are usually too expensive so I stick to Hudson and AG. I've got a few pairs of Joe's that I recently purchased as well - hopefully they hold up better than the last pair.
I wash them inside out on cold and hang to dry.
I tend to find mine at Nordstrom Rack, Loehmans, Off 5th (usually still too expensive there), and the now defunct Filene's Basement (sniff...). I don't pay more than $80 for a pair.
I'd love to buy off of a sample sale site, but get so nervous cause it seems like every pair fits differently. So even when I find a style I like, I have to try on multiple pairs in the store too to find one that works well.
For those of you with designer jeans, are they thicker than cheap jeans? Before I had kids my Buckle jeans lasted a long time, but I didn't do much in them except sit in a chair or walk around. Now I'm on the floor a lot and it didn't take but a few months to wear holes in the knees of every pair I own. I'd get 1 nice pair but I don't know if they'll hold up being worn like that, especially if I don't own very many pairs. WDYT?

Yes we can!!! We will go to Nordstrom bc that is my denim mecca. haha. I am due for new ones as well so will probably crack before then but you can never have too many jeans. And then we can get lunch with the kiddos at the cafe. I am marking my calendar! (I'm being serious. I heart Nordstrom. and I am sometimes too honest when clothes shopping with friends.)
I will also say that one of my pet peeves is people with expensive jeans that fit poorly/look bad. Just because they are $$$ doesn't mean they will look great on you (for example, Sevens are just okay on me, Rock and Republic look awful, but Citizens look great.)

I think you need to stop playing on the floor with your kids in the name of good jeans
But seriously, I'd buy a pair of cheaper jeans that still fit nice (which will just depend on your shape, etc) and I'd wear those for kid-time during the day and then I'd keep a pair of good jeans when you aren't going to be on the floor.
