I did my second gravel grinder race of the year. The course was supposed to be 50% singletrack and 50% doubletrack/gravel road. Unfortunately, we've been hammered with rain for over a week. It turned the course into a mudfest. The first 25k loop was about 30% singletrack (60% rideable), 25% unridable muddy logging road, and 50% gravel/mix/big hills. They rerouted the entire 2nd 25k loop, and the men's winner said it was in much better shape b/c it was mostly gravel with not too much climbing.
I'd planned to do the 50 km, but when I got back in at 2 hours and 45 minutes from the 25 km, I decided to call it a day. The promoter said at the rider's meeting that we could downgrade when we came back through the start/finish area between loops b/c of the terrible conditions. This promoter is great and puts on amazing races; he was very accommodating. It's promoters like this that I love to support. So, I won the 25K women's race. The lady in second has been riding mountain bikes for years. She's a below the knee amputee and adapts by riding with flat (not clipless) pedals and "trying not to fall on her left side." She was awesome!
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
