"Why would you ruin perfectly good peanuts by adding candy corn? That's like saying hey, I have these awesome nachos, guess I better add some dryer lint." - Nonny
Local furniture store (the living room stuff is England) or my H built it.
Our bedroom furniture is his stuff from Target before we met. We haven't replaced it because we can't agree on a style. I compromised on some pieces he made for the kids rooms and I dont really like them.
A lot from local furniture stores, with several nice pieces and art from IL's storage units. We also have things from Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn, PB Kids, Ballard, West Elm, Craigslist, even Target. DH also constructed Ballard-knock off built-ins in our living room.
we got the living room and master bed furniture in bernie and phyls. It might just be an MA store.. not sure. It's not bad. We have a dark brown leather couch that has holes in it now but that's from our giant dog. I'm not sure anything would hold up to him
we've had the stuff about 5 years I think, since we bought the house
the bedroom furniture is probably fine for the forseeable future but I guess at some point we'll have to get new couches
the babies crib is ikea and the toddler bed we bought from walmart or kmart online, can't remember.
our dining room table and chairs we got on craigslist, it was a good deal and is in good shape still.
Do not buy the Crate & Barrel Petrie Apartment Sofa! It looks nice at first, but the manufacturing is of terrible quality. I have had the sofa for less than 2 years and taken very good care of it (no pets or children, light use, regular vacuuming) and it already looks very worn. The fabric on the charcoal gray has faded to an orange color on some pieces of fabric but not others, so it seems like some of the fabric used was improperly dyed or prone to fading for some other reason. Several of the buttons have loose threads around them, and a couple of them stick out so much they easily get caught on clothing when sitting on the couch. Crate & Barrel has refused to repair the discolored panels of fabric or exchange the couch due to these defects. Very expensive couch to only last a year.

Everything but our dining set (Macy's) and wine cabinet (Cost Plus) is from Ikea. We replaced a lot of 10 year old furniture when we moved a year ago. The Ikea stuff that was not new with the move has held up pretty well and survived three moves. I hope all of the new stuff we have survives the same.

90% of our current furniture is secondhand or given to us as hand me downs. It is all random. We were grateful to save money initially but now I'm over it and just want pretty furniture that matches, dammit. We plan on buying new furniture whenever we move from our current place.

My sister bought a china cabinet from crate and barrel and the quality is horrendous.
