I don't get designating a man cave or she shed--why can't everyone just have their alone space? However, I love, love, love the pic you posted. I want that to be my house.

It's because we've been led to believe that everything has to have a name.
Yes, that was my favorite of the ones from the first link.
I can't imagine how much money I'd have to have to justify something like those sheds. I'm not offended by man caves, though. They can be used to host friends. Generally speaking, most of the house is decorated by a female and is much more feminine than a man would choose. I see a man cave as a place to decorate with all of the masculine things...not as a place off-limits to everyone else in the family, though.
I plan to have "my own" living room at the new house. It's just a formal living room. I won't do anything fancy with it, but there will be no toys, no TV, and no rough housing in that room. It's for anyone who wants to read, rest, relax, or have a nice conversation.
I'm pretty sure that if it were outside the house, I wouldn't ever use it. I do have the lower level bedroom set up mostly as a craft room and reading space for myself, but it also has all the board games, legos and the dollhouse, and the futon for guests so it's not really just mine. But we have a living room and a family room too, so if someone needs a quiet place to go, there's usually somewhere safe.
Now that I think about it more, these are really just garden follies and I hereby move that no one ever use the word "she shed" again.
Granted they are the plebian versions of the garden follies that the European nobility built on their grand estates. Try not to feel jealous that you don't have your own private lake to site your folly or a small army of gardeners to trim your box maze.

Why the damn hell is my genderized "private space" detached from the house? And would only be functional (at least here), 3-5 months of the year? Eff that.
Besides, I LIKE sports. I LIKE computer games. Gimme my man cave, dammit.

I wish I could insert an audio groan right here.
I dislike the "man-caves" and "she-sheds" in general. The whole house is mine, some parts more than others, but I think the idea that is generally marketed as man-caves is beyond lame.
