Mr. Smock did an elimination diet because his doctor suspected that a food allergy was fucking up his esophagus. He did 6 weeks cutting the most common food allergies (dairy, gluten, eggs, soy, fish/shellfish, and nuts), and after the six weeks he reintroduced one of those groups every 2-3 weeks. It was a total bitch, particularly because he rarely ate meat. He ate a lot of rice and beans and was very sad.
He was under a doctor's supervision, and met with his doctor at the end of the six weeks and again about 4 months later. It did help us figure out what was causing his issues, but man it was unpleasant.
I did W30 several years ago to determine the cause of idiopathic chronic hives. It turned out I was allergic to wheat even though I tested negative on allergy tests. I was not under the supervision of a doctor.

I did a whole 30 to figure out what was causing my chronic hand eczema. I tested negative to all food allergies, but apparently they aren't able to detect that type of inflammatory reaction.
Anyway, it turns out I'm allergic to wheat. Eliminating wheat makes my eczema disappear after a couple of weeks.
