Sherri Shepherd loses case, will be on birth cert

Can't get a link to work, sorry. Anyway, Sherri Shepherd lost her most recent court battle with her ex. She will now be listed on their baby's birth certificate, so her ex can pursue child support. While I think he's a douche, she is so much worse in my book. Sorry your husband "tricked" you into having a kid, but the kid is here so you don't get to disown him/her.

ETA: To clarify, the baby was born via surrogate. They used an egg donor (sperm from Lamar, Sherri's ex). Surrogate is currently listed as baby's mother on birth cert, despite not wanting her name there. Sherri and Lamar split when surrogate was pregnant and Sherri said Lamar had deceived her and she now wanted nothing to do with the child. Lamar sued to have Sherri's name listed on birth cert as mother. Sherri says it's bc he wants $$ from her. Sherri sucks as a human being.

That's a really good discussion to have.  I would have assumed that there was something in the contract when you sign on to be a surrogate, though.  It's surprising that this is the first time that it's happened, honestly, if there is nothing set in stone. People are assholes.

Right, but she should still be responsible for the kid. Whether that's financial or whatever. Maybe she'll seek to terminate her parental rights, who knows. But she should have to pursue that and not just be allowed to be absolved of responsibility by not putting her name on the birth cert, even tho it's her kid. Not fair to the kid.

I am interested in the Sofia Vergara case. She and an ex froze embryos and then they split.

The ex wants the embryos, Sofia wants them destroyed (I don't know what the correct term is, I have no skin in the game!). He is taking her to court. She is saying that he is doing this just so he can get child support off of her.

I'm interested to see what is decided.

I also read somewhere that because the laws aren't caught up with technology that there may be concern that the surrogate may be legally responsible for the baby. I feel so bad for that poor baby.

I heard on the news that he can't have those embryos implanted in someone else without her consent.  I wonder why he still wants them?

I read she doesn't want them destroyed, just not used. And they apparently had a contract saying both of them had to agree to use the embryos and since she doesn't they will sit there.

I've been reading about this!  I think it's not going to go anywhere, because they have to be in agreement if something is done.  Otherwise they just stay frozen.  At least, that's what I've gotten from the articles.  I think she's like "Just leave them frozen indefinitely" and then upon her death they would be destroyed (if that's the right word).  I feel like he's doing it to fuck with her.

I don't care what he says, I would NOT want a child with my ex after we have broken up. And bullshit to "she doesn't have to be involved" because I also wouldn't want to know I had a kid running around that I wasn't involved with.

So make things easy for everyone, forget those embryos and get some other woman pregnant.
