(because my mom is freaking out lol)
My mom, sister and I are going to Bainbridge on Saturday and need to catch the 7:55am ferry. My mom has sent me eleventybillion emails with links and questions and worries about making it on, lol. Is 20min enough time to make sure we get on the ferry? I said I'd ask you guys and if it gets the Seattle-GBCN stamp of approval then she'll stop worrying*
*probably not, but at least I can keep saying you guys said it would be ok
From my experience I would get there around around 7:30 AM since on the weekends early morning a lot of people like to leave town if it will be nice out.

I travel mostly to Whidbey and Port Townsand
oh yeah, should have said that - yes from downtown. I was wondering how early people go on the weekends to get out there and was thinking 30min would be safe (the website says at least 20min) and more than that would be excessive.
The weekends can be tricky if you drive. Whidbey can be empty at 7 one weekend and a 3 boat wait the next. But it is still early in the season so you should be fine 30 minutes prior (that is what I am for).

I would think 30 minutes early for a weekend morning would be plenty. Heading to Bainbridge we rarely have issues unless it's a weekday afternoon (commute time) or a holiday weekend.
