I'm picking lights for all my bathrooms. It's new construction, remember, so choices are limited. A and B are included in the base price. C is an upgrade (about $75 per fixture). Sorry the pictures are so big.
Well when we were doing our selections, I said no to A and B pretty quickly. I asked her to price out C because it seemed like the next best choice (out of the maybe 5 they had for me). Now we have the price and I have to say yes or no. There are 5 light fixtures total (3 1/2 baths, the master has 2), so I was debating if it was worth the $375 or if I should go back to one of the "free" ones. bunnymendelbaum
Which do you prefer? I like C the best, but it is more my style.
This.
Honestly, I don't really like any of them, so I would take the builder basic and live with it until I found one that I really loved.
I think we have the builder basic in our master. We have two and we hate them, but we haven't gotten to the master bath yet (2 yrs of reno on our 70s house, and more to go), and no one else sees them, so it hasn't been a priority. I think we replaced the main bath within the first two months we lived here.

Also see if they will install something you buy? You could have them just put in a j box or a cheap dummy fixture too and put something you love up yourself.

This is kind of what I was thinking. None of them are really super, so maybe just go with "free" and upgrade later.
But I also have to be realistic and know that my husband is going to have a big problem with me wanting to replace a "perfectly good brand new light that we've already paid for". So I'd probably have to live with them for a number of years before I can suggest replacing.
Also, I did ask during kitchen faucet selection and backsplash tile selection if I could get a credit and just buy my own and she told me NO! I was really surprised. The freestanding tub in the master, on the other hand, is not through their vendor so I have to purchase it myself and they will install it. I got a (pidly) credit for what they would've included. So I'm guessing these things are possible, they just like to discourage it...?

You can always sell the original fixtures on Craigslist or local tag sale boards. Huge demand for that type of thing (depending on your area) and it can be your argument for upgrading.

That light fixture is super cheap and looks it irl. We put in a similar one in our old house, figuring that whoever bought the house could pick out their own nice light since we had spent a lot on other updates, and I think it was under $20 at a builders supply store.
Also, it gives off really bad light, so my H would jump at the chance to replace it.....if I could ever decide on a fixture.lol The bathroom reno is not happening soon, but he doesn't want to wait any longer for new lights. Maybe your H will hate it enough to want to replace it and donate it.
C is more my choice, but even if you don't love that one, then I would pick one of the included ones and then plan on replacing it myself down the time. Like the PPs said, you can always re-sell them on Craigslist or donate to your local Restore (Habitat for Humanity).
I have those in all 3 of my bathrooms, just white not silver. They're pretty unobtrusive. Not "OMG that fixture is awesome! Where'd you get that?" or anything..lol but no one is going "OMG. That is one damn ugly fixture!" Haha.
I couldn't careless about bathroom light fixtures though. I'd rather put the pretty in the rooms I'm in more than about 10 minutes a day.
It looks much better on the wall than in the box for sure and I actually like the light it gives off.
Coming back to this, I decided to go with B. I might do A in the master. None of them are wildly better or worse than the others, as you all have pointed out, so I might as well go with "free". Probably someday I will swap them out, but this buys me time and opens up more choices. Thanks all!
