I'm thinking of doing this soon. Does anyone else have experience with it? We get asked a lot if LO is mixed with Asian. H was recently asked by a co-worker if she was mixed, and he answered saying that I am half black. But that's not what she meant. She meant Asian. He says he has mostly German and Italian on his side. No Asian that he's aware of. I find genetics fascinating. I'm really curious to find out what our backgrounds are.
I'm not seeing things, right? I'm not the only one who sees similarities in eye shape.
I can definitely see where they are getting Asian! Looking at the pic of your H as a kid, it looks like he could have some indigenous Scandinavian blood.
Someone else recently asked that! Thoughts to think about. Genetics is fascinating!
I did 23andme's genetic testing a couple of years ago, and they showed ancestry as well as all sorts of other nifty results. I know that since then they've been restricted on how they present the data to customers (so as not to be offering medical advice or something), but I think the ancestry stuff would still be accurate. Mine confirmed to me that I'm what I call a "European mutt" - a mix of a bunch of different countries in Europe, mostly eastern.
I recently did it through Ancestry .com. It was interesting and helped me discover some interesting things about my background. I am mixed and mostly White/Asian, but discovered that I'm actually a little bit Hawaiian/White/Asian (probably one of my great grandparents was Hawaiian). My mom was really excited to confirm this suspicion. I will say that the test did not provide the most detailed picture of the European side of my ancestry, which is mostly British.

I don't have any experience but I think it's really neat. I know my background pretty well but DH does not know much about his. I think it would be cool to do for my kids.
You can sign up on Facebook. Its a study through the univeristy of Michigan. You have to fill out surveys and a questioniare and sign a waiver. Anyway, just thought I would share, in case you are interested.

Thanks for posting that link! I've wanted to do some form of testing for a while, but I've been hesitant to go through a company. I love the idea of going through UM - both because as a scientist I like the possibility of my DNA being used in a study, and because I trust the IRB process makes it much less likely that my DNA would somehow be used for something I'm not comfortable with (not that it's extremely likely with a company, but I feel safer with a university). Not to mention free is always better than $100
