I just got the ok from my OB to start working out and I am starting with a couch to 5K plus light lifting. I have completed the first day a few times and today i started feeling some shin pain. Do you think it's bad form, just pain of being a new runner or bad shoes?

Yes, shoes. Some running stores are better than others though. Do some research online and see if you can find one that has people with some credentials to help fit the shoe or does a gait analysis. I don't think you've got "bad" form, but we're all unique. You need the best shoe for YOU and the way your body moves right now.
That said, I think sore shins are probably the most common thing right away when you start back running. You can try ice, NSAID, and run on softer surfaces like gravel, grass, or a local track if possible until they start feeling better.
Well those are at least running shoes with a lot of stability. They may be the wrong shoe for you, and def go get fitted but im gonna guess its a too much/too soon/newbie runner/muscle imbalance thing.
How random you're in MN. Me too! I really like Gear West in Long Lake (just past Wayzata). It's quite a drive for me, but their expert Wendi is amazing. gait.gearwest.com
It's rather hard to get an appointment and she does charge a fee. Even if you're not interested in waiting to see her the store itself does a great job if you just stop in. Not sure about their return policy but I think it's good. GL!
thom it might be worth it if she's good. I've been fitted twice before and neither time the shoes were fantastic. I don't know why this has to be so difficult! That actually wouldn't be too bad of a drive for me.
luckyno7, I haven't been to thom 's shoe whisperer yet, but have had good luck at the running room in apple valley, and runner's gate, also in apple valley
