DS1's teacher offers 1:1 or siblings:teacher tutoring in the summer. DS doesn't NEED tutoring, but I think he'd really love going. (It's Montessori, so they wouldn't just be sitting and practicing writing.) The problem is that she doesn't give a price, even after asking repeatedly. She says to pay what you're comfortable with. She would (& does) do it for free, but I don't want to do that. On the other hand, we currently have two mortgages until we can sell our house, so I don't have a lot of (or any) extra money.
What would you pay? (I know this is strange. She's not married, her kids are all grown, and she is financially comfortable. She runs the school, so there's no tutoring policy, either. She largely does it for fun & because she loves being around the kids.)
My friend is going to push again on a price directly from her. Her hang-up is that she requests that some kids come in for tutoring in the summer. She doesn't want to make them pay just because their kid is behind, so she just lets everyone pay whatever they'd like. I'm not sure what these "tutoring" sessions are like for kids who aren't behind, either. If she's basically there with a few manipulative a set up for them to choose and explore, that's different than if she's more hands-on.
With everything going on with the houses, we may not do it this year anyway. Then I'd have a better idea for next year what it looks like & what others pay.
