I am wondering if I am alone or if this is common.
When we go somewhere, I can never go #2. We were in CA for 4 days, 5 nights. I went like a half of a #2 on the last day after trying for a while because my tummy was hurting.
We just went camping for the weekend and my aunt has a marine toilet and I couldn't go #2 at all. James went like 2x/day and I was so jealous.
The only exception to this is when we stay at my mom's house, and I think it's because I use to live there and feel very much at home.
So, does this sort of thing happen to anyone else or do things move appropriately for you guys while you are away from home.

It's totally normal. I think Dr. Oz even said something about it one time, how your body slows itself down or something. It's called Vacation Syndrome or something like that.
My best advice would be to take Colace (or another stool softener) while you're on vacay so it's easier to go, and make sure you're drinking lots of water, since airplane rides and stuff can make you super dehydrated.

When we were on our honeymoon in Cabo, I had this issue and it was getting really bad. So, we started walking around to the local pharmacies. Everything was in spanish and we couldn't find anyone in them who spoke English. So, James was trying to demonstrate what we needed with hand motions and such. It was hilarious. We were unable to adequately communicate.
it is super common. smooth move tea is another great thing to bring on trips to "help get things moving" .
IMO the chocolate version tastes way better than the original. However, I get horrible, horrible cramps, so I try not to use it unless absolutely needed. It really does work though.
