Yes it was a concern for us also. Flame retardants are endocrine disruptors, which I was very concerned about for a tiny baby. So we bought DS and DD Naturepedic mattresses. We converted DS's crib to a toddler bed, so he's going to get 4-5 years of use out of the mattress before getting an adult bed. So I felt better about splurging on an organic mattress. It's been great quality, the kids are very comfy.

We also splurged on a naturepedic crib mattress... And cheap ikea crib. We got a toddler bed to extend the mattress another few years. My daughter thinks her bed is. "So comfy and cozy" I'm guessing we will research and buy another no off gas mattress when the time comes, even if it means we need to save for a bit for it.
I'm buying a full. The cost is significantly more.
Yeah, that was my issue. I have yet to decide. I don't know if the science is really there to connect flame retardants to long term damage. Kind of like the science behind sunscreen being dangerous
