I hadn't heard that people DIED after eating it. How sad. And folks are up in arms because they can't have their precious ice cream? Priorities people!
I can't imagine having a family member die after eating ice cream. How tragic.
No one has died.
3 people from Kansas have died. People are sick in Oklahoma, Arizona, Kansas, Texas.

I'm from the town where the original creamery is. I don't live there anymore, and I do think the prayer vigil thing is a bit overboard. I agree that the focus should be about the people who have suffered from eating the contaminated product, but the concern and support people are showing for the company comes from more than a complaint of not having "their precious ice cream." Brenham is a town of about 15,000 people. Blue Bell was started by a single family, and it has stayed in that family for over a century. Much of the town's economy is centered around this company, and it provides jobs for a great deal of people. Blue Bell and the family that founded the company donate money to provide roads, nursing homes, buildings for the school, etc. Heck, even the town pool is the Blue Bell Aquatic Center, which comes with a banana split slide and popsicles to walk across instead of lily pads.
My point is that the people in town are coming from a place of concern for a family company that has supported the city. While it is pretty ridiculous to pray about an ice cream recall, I do think it's just an outlet for people to show Blue Bell they are backing them and hope they come back better than ever.

Look, I don't have a spoon in this fight, since I hate white creamy things (bring it at me!)
But I kind feel like a PC&E killjoy (which I am not, they would repudiate me as one of their own) when I say that the BlueBell of yore, is not the BlueBell of today.
ETA: I may have been a little fired up about *praying for ice cream* since I almost smothered myself trying to get a king-sized duvet cover on the duvet by myself. Of course, I hope the people who work at these facilities are able to keep and enjoy their jobs. Listeria is a mysterious thing.
I think I have had Blue Bell twice in 20 years? I'm not a huge fan.
David came home from school last week talking about that ice cream that makes you sick. I was like, huh???What are you talking about??? He's all "Blue Bell, mom!!!!'" We don't eat that shit anyway, son!
