I stopped my bcp in early March. My last period (the week I finished my last week of bc) was the second week of March. I had my annual with my gyno already scheduled for April 15. I was technically already overdue for AF by about a week. this was the first appointment I've had with her that we were ttc, so she ordered some bloodwork, and also ordered a pregnancy test (it was negative). She knows we are ttc, so she had me take a cycle of provera (generic) to induce a period, as I have yet to have one since stopping bc.
Here's my question: For those of you who've taken it, did it help regulate your cycle? Did you have to take more than one cycle of it to get back to "normal"? I was pretty regular prior to the pill, but I was on it for nine years, so it's been a long time. I know it will likely induce a period this time, but does it signify bigger concerns or issues if it doesn't or if I end up with another 50+ day cycle after? Since we are ttc, I just didn't know if getting regular again might take a few cycles, just to keep my expectations in check if I do continue to have long cycles.
Hmm, I've never taken Provera, but when I came off BC after being on for basically 10+ years, it took a few cycles to regulate. My first cycle was at least 45 days, which my Bump lurking told me was really normal. I guess what I'm saying is that unless there's some reason to believe your cycle is irregular, a long cycle is normal coming off BC, so I wouldn't expect Provera to be regulating you.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
Provera doesn't regulate you it will just induce AF.
I'm surprised your doctor gave you it to take this quickly, it can take up to 50 days (approximately) to get AF after stopping BCPs, this is why doctors don't usually give you provera until after CD60. Some doctors are different though and this is just my experience.
I have had to take multiple doses of provera to keep my cycle going, including being on my second dose in the last 5 months. But I just don't ovulate "normally".
I hope it induces AF for you and you start to regulate.
