I'm actually not in agreement that J owes anyone a statement on Baltimore or Ferguson. I get what the tweets are saying, but tying those issues to his statements on Tidal is weak.
Is anyone else disappointed in how calm and rational his tweets were? You could almost hear squealing tires when I raced in here to see Jay-Z lose his mind on Twitter.
Can I jump in to ask a race question? There is a Daily Beast article that calls Jay Z, "Jigga."
"The artist-owned streaming music service Tidal, lorded over by Jay Z, has come under fire from a bevy of artists, so Jigga has gone on the defensive against its many detractors."
I've never heard this word before, but I can't keep celebs straight so that means nothing. Is that a Jay Z thing that Jay Z started and does that make it okay? Because just making up a nickname like that is totally questionable, yes?
Sorry for the confusion about the second part. Let me try to clarify.
Imagine if some random writer were to pen an article about a black musician and they made up a nickname for him that rhymed with the N-word and wasn't tiger or digger. That would be bad, right? Or would it depend on the background of the writer?

Sigh.
I need for folks to understand this - black folks co-opted the N-word. We took this word and put it in our own vernacular and took away it's meaning.
I really struggle - prolly because I ain't white and will likely never be white unless I do so serious skin bleaching and even then I won't be white - with understanding why y'all don't grasp this. Yes, I get that y'all can't say the word because some white folks did some straight evil shit behind it, but why do y'all constantly pull the 6 year old line of "Jane's dad let her do it!"
Jay-Z gave himself that nickname. Am I really going to tell him that he can't call himself Jigga because it rhymes with something else and he along with other rappers co-opted a word to have a different connotation.
I disagree with Jeff Foxworthy and his Redneck jokes because I dislike the word and find it demeaning. But, I'm not telling Jeff that he can't use it because I know that black folks have no good meaning associations with it.
I seriously can't wait to show my 12 year old this Vine. I mean seriously. We are forever doing the Waiting on You At the Door face and screaming "HOW HARD IS THAT CHRISTOPHER."

Please don't put me on THE LIST.
I think I do understand it which is why I asked if Jigga was Jay Z's thing. The other option was that the author was a raging asshole but he didn't have the usual clinical presentation.
I'd never heard Jigga before today. Yeezus and J-Hova and the others are also new. Please remember, I'm the poster that doesn't know who anyone is.

I need to find that original quote, because I laughed for days at that! Did she get to go to her Trey Songz concert???
