My 6-week old daughter just outgrew her newborn clothes. She's only about 8 lbs; newborn sleepers long enough, but with cloth diapers, the torso is too short; for example, it's hard to snap onesies at the crotch. I need to buy a few things, but should I get 0-3 month or 3-6? Is 0-3 significantly bigger than newborn? I hate to buy a bunch of 0-3, since she will be 3 months in six weeks. (Note: how is that possible??)

0-3 is significantly bigger than newborn. I did find though that I was kind of able to pass through 6-9 months only buying a few things since she grew so much so fast. You can always just get a few things as needed rather than buying a whole wardrobe.
0-3 is bigger than newborn. E doesn't fit into 99% of newborn anymore (except a couple really big things) but 0-3 fits well. 3-6 is way too big still. I'd go with a few 0-3m things!
Buy 0-3. Size 3-6 will be way too big. This is why buying used when they are so little is nice. They can go through sizes so quickly that it doesn't make sense to pay full price for items they will only wear a couple of times.
I would get some 0-3. My son outgrew newborn around six weeks, and was in 0-3 for a good six weeks after that, and could wear some of it a little longer.
Don't pay attention to the month ranges - those are best guesses by the manufacturer and wildly different from brand to brand. 0-3 month is the next step up from NB size. Get a few things and see how fast of a grower she is - you can always buy more!
FWIW my almost-10-month-old is still solidly in 6-9 month clothes and even some 3-6 month pants. He's a small dude.

Thanks, ladies, very helpful!
I know there is a lot of variance between brands. We've gotten some hand me downs and I'm happy to buy cheaper stuff on big sales at Carters. But I wanted to buy a couple things from Kissy Kissy and Baby Gap, so before I did that, I figured I should make sure I was making a best guess on size.
I'm already sad that she's out of newborn, even though she wore them for six weeks!
E was a monster baby and surprised us by staying in NB for nearly a month. She has been in 0-3/3mth since 4wks and just started outgrowing some at 11wks.
This is a good example of making a first time mom mistake. At the time I thought 0-3 would fit a newborn....you know, being "0 months old" might incorporate a child who isn't 1 month old yet - I was wrong. I bought this Halloween costume for her before she was born. She was swimming in it. My daughter was 2 weeks old here and she was 7lbs 4oz at birth.
DD is 6 months old and just growing out of 0-3 so yes get clothes in that size. You will also notice different brands and how they fit. Gap and Carters to me are longer then Old navy and target so my kids tend to wear that longer. Most of their sleepers are carters so sometimes I have outfits they outgrow but they can still wear sleepers for awhile.
