Hi all! How are you? I keep forgetting the Seattle board migrated over to PB in the great May exodus. I'm going to try to come by more regularly, at least until this baby comes out.
So, a spin-off of the RSVP post: Anyone know what the deal is with Facebook's friend request reply options these days? You can either confirm or say "not now," but not just say "NO." I got a friend request from someone I'm definitely not going to friend (I'm not sure why he sent the request), and I kind of wish he would just get a straight "no" in response to the request. Instead, when I clicked "not now" FB says it will "hide" the request so I won't see it again. OK... and? What happens on the other end? Does it just look to the requester that I just haven't replied? I think they should at least have those existing options and a plain "no (never ever ever, he's icky)" button.
Maybe I'm weird, but this just seems so passive aggressive. But maybe that's what most FB users want. Thoughts?
To the person who requested you it'll look like you never responded. You also have the option to block that person, so they can't ever see/contact you.
I don't like a lot of the passive-aggressive changes they made. You now can't just say "NO!" to a request, which is sucky. If you go to "friends" and "show all hidden" you can then at least go "delete request" but it looks to them like you never responded. Stupid. A clear response of "they denied your request" is so much better!! The only positive change they finally made was to let you cancel a F/R for those ridiculously P/A people who couldn't even bother to deny you and left it out there just hanging For.E.Var! Events also now don't let you respond "yes" that you're going, now you "join."
I didn't know it had changed, probably b/c I don't get many friend requests.
9/22! 40 days. I don't get many unexpected requests; most of the ones I get are ones I knew were coming (e.g., get to know someone at a few gatherings, then finally we decide to FB friend each other) so I'm usually just accepting the request. "Not now" is such a weird option!
OMG, 40 days? so exciting! do you know what you're having? what you're naming your child? congrats!
Thanks! It's a boy, and we're most likely naming him Elliott. Middle name is my maiden name, which is common but I'm still a bit hesitant to share. We're pretty damn excited! I'm getting antsy, because I have four friends and family members due in August, and three have already had their babies. Makes me jealous! For now, I'm just focusing on how to survive the 90+ degree weather due later this week.
