When they say the life span is the same- in the bottom of the screen it cites the New York times or Wall Street journal or something like that. I'm sure a newspaper is well equipped to know and study the lifespan of whales.
My dh googled after we saw this commercial and where they say they haven't captured something from the wild in 35 years the life span makes it so that the animal they captured then is still alive so they've had no need to. No clue if that's true or not, not that the internet ever lies or anything.
One of my coworkers is taking her family to Sea World in a few weeks. I had to walk away from that conversation because they outrank me and it isn't someone where I could express how much Sea World sucks.

I'm not that surprised it took this long. Trying the "We're good people!" angle right after Blackfish came out would have been too desperate. If nothing else, they have good lawyers and PR people.
There are plenty of fucking morons who still think it's totes cool to go to the circus. So I don't think Sea World is hurting that bad for attendance. People are selfish and stupid.
Truth. A blogger I follow on IG recently posted about how they had vowed never to go because of Blackfish, but her daughters love it so she bought a membership. She seemed to believe they do more good than bad, so maybe they have a really good PR team.
They do SOME good. We saw them releasing some manatees back into the wild which was great. But this whale situation is just awful. Our kid would go nuts for Seaworld but we will never go. She's just going to have to love seeing a whale on a whale watching tour one day which honestly is way more awesome anyway.

Based on video I saw over the weekend of the Shamu show, plenty of visitors are still going. That being said, the have hired less seasonal workers in recent years, so the movie did affect them (at least here in SD)
My mom use to work with Sea World a bunch when they saw an animal in distress at her old job (tour company). She said they were always wonderful and gave them updates about the animal when it was ok enough to be released. They do some good, but I just don't understand why they need whales. They're fucking whales! You can't keep them in a fish tank. Maybe they'll go the way of the circus with elephants?
