I love the name, but now DD's name will be even more popular. When my Grandma Charlotte passed away 4 years ago I knew if I had a girl I wanted to name it Charlotte, never knew that when she was born it would be such a popular name!
Same. DD is named after my grandmother who is a Charlotte too. Growing up I always wanted to use the name but it's so popular! Our next name choice is Alice after DH's grandmother.
I'll be the naysayer. I'm not surprised, but am a bit disappointed by the order of the names. I wish they had had the cojones to use Diana as a first name.
FWIW, I feel like Charlotte is still totally useable. If it were a less common name, then I might worry that it is too closely associated with the Princess. But there are a zillion Charlottes in the US as it is, enough so that I don't think anyone would assume that a baby Charlotte is "copying" the royals.
But I have a Henry William and a Charles, so clearly I am unconcerned about duplicating royal names.

She already wears Diana's engagement ring. I think that and naming her first born daughter with the first name of Diana might be a lot.
Meaning/sentiment aside, maybe they just liked the name Charlotte best and it had nothing to do with cojones? (I will admit that I personally do not like the name Diana.)

I agree with this. It is possible that they liked Charlotte the best and went with that for the first name over Diana. But I also don't like Diana so a middle name seems like a good compromise

Dang her for stealing my girl name (Charlotte). I will now not use it because of this (for hypothetical girl child of course, since the mirena is still firmly placed in my ut)

I am trying to recall if George saw a surge here in the US. I know it had gotten more popular but I knew some young Georges born before Prince George, so it might have been a natural progression and not necessarily due to Prince George.
And even though I'm due in September, I would have still considered Charlotte if this baby is a girl but DH already vetoed it so it's out anyway.
Am I the only one who'd still use Charlotte? It's a beautiful name and as long as the kid wasn't born the same day as Princess Charlotte, I would still use the name.

Charlotte was #11 in popularity in the US in 2013. I think it could be hard to see if there is a spike just from this with a name that is already so popular.

I don't think we can say about George yet. 2104 numbers are not out yet and he was born in 2013.

I agree with you. DS is George and he was born after Prince George. It was a family name so we didn't think twice about using it. I also wouldn't have minded if they had used the same name for the princess as our DD. If you love the name, why not use it. They've chosen beautiful, classic names.
Mine is part of it so I'm practically royalty now right?
Oh hell yeah, you're royal!! You're the queen of the internet. :-) I don't love Charlotte, but the whole name sounds very pretty together and I'm glad that William stood up for his mother's legacy.

They might not have wanted to use it as a first name. I personally wouldn't want to give a family name as a first name, but used two family names as DD's middle names.

I didn't use any family names for either of my kids, so I don't have a dog in this fight. I just wonder if not using Diana as a fn was a function of truly not wanting to v. royal protocol or what-have-you. I also find it disappointing that Letizia & Felipe named their daughter after the Spanish Queen instead of going for something more off-the-beaten track, so I'm an equal-opportunity-name-judger.
