OMG I love him. They will get used to each other! If not, is it possible to do a schedule where one gets to roam freely at a time and the other has to be shut in a separate room? Is that bad? I just think he looks so happy so I really want this to work!
When I brought in my second cat (two boys, so tougher match than m/f) my new guy stayed in the office most of the time for the first couple of months. I felt guilty about it, but then thought about how he had been living in a 4x4 cage, sleeping on a metal floor or in his tiny litter box. He had a soft new bed, toys, an awesome window for outdoor action and seemed totally content. He has full run of the house now and still gravitates towed "his" room during the daytime.
Your other kitty will come around. We got our third kitty to be a companion (read: distraction) for our boisterous almost fully grown male kitten wanting to play with our 15-year-old female (she was having NONE of that). We adopted another female kittenaround the same age. We did some slow introductions (much like you are now) and then the first two days they were really around each other, there was hissing and growling from our new girl (our boy just looked confused).
Now, the two youngest are thick as thieves (it's almost to the point of get a room already!) but they're also very loving with our older girl as this picture can attest. (no, they're not possessed LOL). And also, the younger two, spooning...

Yes I've thought about doing this, Sadie has her own room so she gets closed in there sometimes.
He's beautiful! I hope they both make the adjustment and it works well for your family. My guys had to be separated for about 2 weeks and then it was supervised interactions for awhile. They aren't exactly bffs, but I catch them snuggling sometimes.
I've had a lot of cats, up to 4 at once. Some may like each other, some co-exist, and some can avoid each other. They will adjust, hissing is to be expected! There's hissing in my house most days.
Yep, this. I have 4 cats now. The youngest one is a typical kitten and likes to play really rough, which annoys the other three cats. But overall, they all get along fine. It did take a little while, but they are all generally happy kitties now.
Do any of you have declawed cats mixed with cats with claws? Sadie has her claws, and this new one has NONE (poor guy). He's so gentle and demure, but I worry if my girl picks on him that he'll bite.
I also don't do the separation thing, I just let them loose!
That's what I've always done too.
About 15 years ago, I got my black and white kitty, Shelby. Bubba, my Russian Blue kitty (since deceased) spent 2 weeks hiding in my bathtub because of this tiny ball of energy. Bubba eventually came around too. They were never buddies, really, but they tolerated each other.

My mom did once. She had a three legged, front declawed cat. The rest of her cats had claws. The declawed cat did just fine. It's amazing how hard they can slap, even without claws. When he had to defend himself, you could hear him slap the other cats lol
When I first convinced DH to get Toby, I was young and stupid and had him completely declawed. We totally regreted that decision afterwards. Anyway, he was king of the castle for about 6 years when we found Reese. Or Reese found us at a friend's aparentment complex. We thought her personality was very much like Toby's. So DH thought it would be nice to have two cats that were so much alike. Got her home and we had to keep them seperated while we were at work. So one day, I tried to acclimate the two by myself. Rookie mistake. I was holding Reese in my lap in her room with the door open. Toby came to the threshold to snoop. Well I must have moved and scared reese. She started biting my arm and hand. I started screaming and Toby went on the defensive. At that point I was standing up and Toby was trying to jump to attack Reese who I was still holding because she had claws and Toby did not. So I finally managed to scootch Toby out of the room with foot and fling Reese into her room and slam the door. Reese had bit through my fingernail and hit a nerve. Toby had jumped and bit my thigh. I sat down in the kitchen to assess the damage. Toby came over and sat on the kitchen table and was trying to lick my wound. Went to urgent care to get looked over.
All that to say, that they don't necessarily have to have claws to destroy something or somebody. So I wouldn't let that detour you from bringing kitty home. Samson is cute!
