I have two degrees in communications and managed to finally get a job in the communications field about 9 months ago within the company I've worked for for almost 8 years (started here right out of grad school).

My Graduate school internship hired me and I'm still here. Undergrad I had a HR degree but ended up doing more social work. I wish I had stayed with HR.

Yep. I have a degree in music business and even though I was told I'd never be able to use it and I'd be living in a van down by the river, I do use it and I actually have a roof over my head. Suck on that college advisor who didn't believe in me! I found my first job on monster. It was in my field doing customer service. I floated around for awhile and even worked in HR for a fortune 500 company before I landed where I am now.

I have a JD and work in my field.
DH has a BA in restaurant and hotel management. His first job he was recruited out of college, after that he has gotten into a very niche area and uses field specific job sites in addition to local networking with other people in his field.
"Ish." I'm not doing either of the things I wanted to do, but I'm kind of within my education field. What I want to do is not anything to do with my degree though.

Sort of. I was a literature/German double major as an undergrad. My first job was a daily newspaper reporter; I heard about it through my journalism prof, as it was the newspaper in his hometown.
After three years there, I left to get my masters in journalism. Then I got a job working for a trade magazine, did three years of that, then became a SAHM.
Now I'm starting to work again, PT from home, for my former industry mag employer. My job is way more related to my journalism degree than my literature one, but I guess you could say they're both the same general field.

I have a PhD in communication and am now a SAHM. So I guess I sort of use that degree; I definitely find a lot of the theory applies to dealing with my 5 and 8 yo DDs! But if you mean a paid job? Currently, no, but before I stopped working I was a college professor in a comm. department, so definitely. And I do still pick up the occasional on-line class as an assistant for the friend who teaches it.

I have degrees in European history, so real jobs in my field are almost non-existant.
I'm going to library school and want to be an archivist though so that will actually be relevant to all of my schooling. And I actually have worked as an archivist before so I guess that counted as working in my field, kind of.
Since the field is more broad than it was when I graduated, yes, but I'm not thrilled about it.
My degree is in journalism. I got my first job out of college as a reporter for a major metro newspaper by sending out clip packages to my top choices. Papers used to fly you out for two or three day interviews, then you've move across the country to work there. Rinse, repeat. I did that for seven years.
Now I work in digital marketing. There are some aspects that apply (social media, UX, communications in general) but I miss my "real" career so much. I know exactly where I'd be right now if journalism hadn't taken a nose dive. Sometimes I feel like I just don't fit outside that world.

Nope.
My degree is in PR, but I chose that specifically because I knew it was a degree that would be useful across a lot of professions.
This is my first "real" job, post graduation. I've been here 6 years. It took me almost 2 years to find a real job. And I mostly got this job because I worked at my mom's office during the summers between college semesters. So I had a little bit of patent knowledge. Then a guy who worked with my mom called her and asked if I would be interested in temping for him while he was on vacation. I agreed. They kept me on as a general legal temp for 4 months after that guy came back from his vacation. 2 weeks after they said they couldn't renew my temp contract, that guy quit. So I got his job.
No, mostly because I don't have a job but every job out of college have been related to my degree.
I got my first job through a head hunting agency that found my resume online. It was a temp to hopefully permanent job in my field but was also a 2 hour commute one way on a good day, so after 2 months, I new it wasn't going to last. I continued to search for jobs and I got my second job after submitting my resume straight to the company. Both these jobs spanned about 6 years (4 months and then 5 1/2 years).
Longer version (feel free to skip): I kind of got screwed as I was leaving college but I guess some of it was partly my fault but I wasn't very experienced in interviewing/hiring process.
I had co-oped at a company in my field throughout college so basically I switched between working and school every semester. After my last stint of work, I was told that I would be offered a full time position upon graduation. I did still continue to interview but I wasn't trying very hard unless it was in a particular geographical area that wasn't very populated with companies practicing my field. Come to about 4 weeks before graduation, I'm told the offer paperwork is in the mail. The week before graduation they tell me that they can't offer me a position because of lack of funding. I'm glad I had decided to move with my now H for his job (opposite side of the country than sucky company).
Yes, I have a degree (B.S. Mathematics) and work in a field that uses it. I got my job through talking to my undergraduate professors. A previous student was the highering manager and reached out to the professor to see if he had any students that might be interested. I also had an internship in the field prior to graduation. I got that through my sister who works in the same field.
I am still with the same company doing the same thing. The company also paid for my master's degree (M.S. Applied statistics) which is more useful for my job than my undergrad.
field? And, how did you get your first job out of college? AND, is that the same job that you have now/do you still work w/in that company?
Undergrad: yes, I worked in my field. First job out of college was one that I found an ad for and applied, nothing special. I am not still working there.
Grad: yes, I am working in my field. I got this job through connections. I have only been there for 2 months, expect to stay for at least a couple of years.

I have a BA in Music and a Master in Accounting. I don't have a job, LOL. But, when I worked, I never worked in Music or Finance/Accounting. I was in HR.
I got my first job out of college through a temp agency. I was an administrative assistant for the first 8 years of my "career." That company partially paid for my Master Degree in Acct, then I got a job as a Comp Analyst in HR (I was previously an Executive Assistant for the VP of HR). It's about the closet to Accounting you can get in HR.
I have a degree in social work and don`t have a job in my field yet. I`ve been working through school at a group home so am working there while looking for my new job.
my major in college required two internships. i got a job with the second internship company one month after graduating from college. i worked there for seven years before leaving to work for one of the clients. so i do a similar version of what i was doing when i left that company, and now i'm THEIR client. which is pretty fun, if you think about it.
Yes. My degree is in Wildlife and Conservation Biology and I work as the Education Curator at a zoo, which is my first job out of college. When I was getting ready to graduate, I started looking for jobs in the area where DH and I live now (we went to school about 2 hours away, and he graduated a year ahead of me and got a job in this area). The Wichita area has two zoos, and I contacted both about job openings in their Education Departments. The first email back was from the zoo I work at now, asking what my background was. After a few emails back and forth, we set up an interview (I didn't think to ask what it was for!), and I got hired to found the zoo's volunteer program, special events, and education programs. And I'm still here three years later!

Yes. Geology degree, geochemistry MS. I got my job at the gold mine through networking during my MS. I got my first laboratory job through Craigslist and then was poached by a more successful and larger competitor lab. My current job I got by striking up a conversation with my boss at a hair salon, no joke. She happened to be a manager at my current mining company and invited me to interview because they were looking for geochemists. Ta-da!
My masters degree is Social Welfare and I work in public child welfare, so yep, I'm using my degree. I actually got this job as part of a stipend program- the government paid me a stipend towards my masters with a condition that I have to "pay back" one year of work. I've been there for 6 years, and now, I'm probably going to stay. At least there are a lot of opportunities to promote and work on specialized program, which I'm doing now.
Yes, but it took me awhile to figure out what I wanted to do when I "grew up". I went to college for Engineering, didn't graduate, realized I hated doing equations all day long. Went back for business and then I got engaged blah, blah, blah. Again didn't graduate. Worked a ton of construction related jobs. Got my job at current employer and my boss thought I would be good for legal. They sent me to school and now I have a Paralegal certificate, some college and work as a Litigation Manager for a nationwide builder.
