Don’t people learn??? Remember when that poor unsuspecting young man ( I believe it was in Africa but I maybe wrong) asked her what Bill Clinton thought of something? Po lil tink tink.
Okay, I'm going back and forth on this. Because I am not on the "Women are just like men" train. I think women and men are different and their differences are equally valuable.
HOWEVER,
Hillary is not and has never been (or even tried to be) a fashion icon. She hates her hair, she despised the "wear a dress more" instructions she got when Bill was in office. So, the fact that this question was asked, IMO, is more like, "Do you know anything ABOUT this woman?" than "OMG you would never ask a man that." I mean, chances are you would never ask a man how he has managed to balance raising a family with a demanding political career. But Pelosi got asked that all the time and I think her comments on it were valuable.
So, I'm still trying to decide how I feel about this. And irrespective of this issue, Hillary is a bad ass. We agree on that.
yeah. I think I'm with you here. Not offensive to ask somebody who's clearly more into clothes. So, if Michelle Obama is doing an interview, perfectly OK question, despite the fact that she's an amazingly accomplished woman in her own right.

I wish she'd told the jackwagon hired by WBCN in Boston to heckle her in NH "Iron my shirt" that she would - with him in it.

I think the question was inappropriate precisely because she's not a fashion icon, doesn't take risks, and just dresses like a bureaucrat. You don't ask random men in government who don't say anything at all about their clothing ever what designers they like.
Pelosi does make references to being a grandmother, and balancing work/childrearing, so clearly its a topic she wants to talk about and wants people to know about her.
Clinton doesn't exactly walk around discussing her love for Armani or anything. Whereas Michelle Obama does talk clothes, or her press people put out the names of the designers she's wearing, and make a big fuss about it.
I also think fashion is open season for discussion when a person makes a very bold choice. I'd say Condi Rice made clothing discussions open season when she wore those black boots, because she took a very fashion-forward risk. I'm sure if a man decided to, say, forgo a tie during the State of the Union, he might be asked about that choice.
It's super weird to ask that question of people who just wear ordinary clothes, KWIM?
