What strollers did you use with the carseats and without? I went shopping this weekend and felt out some double strollers. I'm thinking of going with a tandem snap and go and moving onto a side by side. Maybe the city mini. The saleswoman who was very helpful and knowledgeable was suggesting tandem for even when they're not in carseats. It felt very cumbersome to me and I'm not sure I liked it.
I realize there are pros and cons to both and in the end personal preference, but which did you prefer, tandem or side by side? And what brand if you don't mind?
We had the Chicco one and it was fine. We graduated to the City Mini and I really liked that one. So easy to toss in the trunk and I liked having them side by side so much better. The tandem was just hard to maneuver, in my opinion.
Not sure which car seats you are using but I used Graco infant seats. I bought a used Snap n Go and hated it. I know most twin moms rave about them but I thought it was a PITA to steer and felt like it was super long. I ended up selling it and buying a Graco Ready 2 grow. My infant seats click right in so it's super easy to set up and fold back up. It's also one I can use after they've outgrown the infant seats which was a plus. I've gotten SO much use out of this. I can easily steer it one handed. The basket underneath isn't huge but I take it shopping all the time and have gotten small loads of groceries before. I like the tandem for going to a store or the mall since I can fit anywhere. And the seats slightly overlap so it doesn't feel like you are trying to push a boat around.
I also wanted a jogging stroller and got the Baby Jogger Summit double. I have been so happy with it. I read a ton of reviews comparing it to a BOB and am really happy with my choice. I kept an eye on albeebaby.com for when it was on sale. Baby jogger is a great brand and they are super easy to fold.
If I didn't want a jogging stroller I would have done the city mini double as a side by side. You could easily take it anywhere as they fit standard doorways, just might be hard if say you were at target and wanted to go thru a tight space or clothing section. Whereas my tandem I can navigate anywhere. My double though is so much easier for walks/runs and things like the zoo since it doesn't feel as heavy to push. Both of my strollers will be used for years to come and I will pry be able to sell for a decent price so worth the investment IMO.

When they were infants we used a Snap and Go with our Chicco Key Fit carseats. We loved it - it was so easy to get them in and out and the stroller took up so little room.
Now that they're older we are using two different side-by-side strollers. One is a McLaren hand-me-down that is very basic and used for quick trips here and there (like to a Dr's appt by myself). The other is a BOB Revolution (can't remember which one) that we use for walks to the park or more "off-roading" type things.
I definitely like the side by side now that they're older. And I like having two kinds for different things. The BOB won't fit down a store aisle, but the McLaren will. And the McLaren doesn't hold up well on rocky terrain. If I didn't have the McLaren I would have gotten a City Mini.
I have stollers on the brain these days as they make such a big difference with twins.
For the first 6 months we used the Joovy Twin Roo all the time as we could click the car seats right into it.
The kids are about ready to outgrown their bucket seats so we have stopped using it and now use our City Mini Double and we also have a McLaren. They both feel pretty wide compared to the Joovy Roo, so we are contemplating getting a tandem stroller. We're looking at the Contours Elite Double Stroller which looks great. You can use it with 2 car seats and it has a ton of different seating configurations.
We did the Double Snap 'N Go with the Chicco seats at first. Then we moved on to a City Select, but we didn't use that for very long (the kid the back ran out of legroom quickly).
Once the kids got older we pretty much stuck to the Double Bob. Used that up until age 3. We also had two umbrella strollers for times when we had the girls split up or didn't want to take Bob the Beast.
They won't sit in a stroller anymore, so by 4 we were done.
I used my Bumbleride Indie Twin from day 1. I love it. The boys are 3 and we still use it every day. I never used car seat adaptors in it, the boys can lay flat in it.
I also have the bugaboo Donkey, I don't like it as much.
If you have more questions about either of those, let me know. I've written about them a bunch
I don't like tandem strollers for life in the city. I've found side by side is actually much easier to push and maneuver. I do use my uppa baby with a wheelie board sometimes if the boys are being good listeners or for quick errands.
I also vastly preferred my SBS stroller to my tandem. I had a City Mini Double and City Select. I sold the Select a year before I retired my CMD. The SBS was much easier to push. And I found it easier in tight spaces bc it was easier to turn and so much shorter. Yes tandems are very narrow but they're long and cumbersome. For example, I couldn't take the Select to my Pedi's office because I could barely fit it in the room, it was so long. And that's not even a long tandem. I did like the Snap n Go stroller for the car seat phase. That was so easy, popping the car seats in and out. If I had it to do over again Id do some kind of snap in stroller then do a SBS. As for what brand, I'm long past the stroller phase so my opinions are probably outdated but I liked the CMD and the Indie Twin a lot.
Warning, I have a lot of strollers. So this will be long.
First I had a a double snap n go. We had chicco infant seats. Yes it was convenient but other than using it when picking up my older son from daycare during maternity leave it didn't get much use. I ditched it early. I just don't like snap n go stRollers. They don't steer well and the ride is bumpy. Other than convenience I just don't like them.
Baby Jogger City Select. We also had the infant seat adaptors for this which is why I quickly ditched the snap n go. This is one of the only strollers I know of that will allow for two infant seat adaptors. Most, like the city mini double only accomodate one. I adore this stroller. There are a million seat configurations and I really like having a tandem stroller. they really enjoy facing eachother. It folds nicely, although you do have to remove the seats. But it's very easy to put together.
Maclaren twin triumph. This is my newest stroller. I use it for travel and dr. Appts. It's nice to have an umbrella stroller option. It folds compactly (almost as compactly as my single umbrella stroller). Very easy to fold and unfold and easily fits through doorways etc.
Valco Tri Mode twin with Joey seat. If you only have 2 kids you don't need this. It's very expensive ($800 ish new) for a side by Side. That said, it's the most amazing triple stroller when you add the Joey seat. This is by far my favorite piece of baby gear I own. But, I had 3 kids under 2 so I needed a triple. Now that I have it I do also use it just as a side by side double toO. It steers wonderfully, has tons and tons of storage. It's seriously amazing. But like I said, it's like $800 so unless you have 3 kids I think you can get a cheaper side by side with similar features.
I do have a city mini single that I really like too. I opted to get the Select over the city mini double mainly because of the car seat adaptor issue. But also because I like the tandem stroller and seat configurations of the select. Some people hate tandem so if you are one that does I'd recommend the city mini Double.
If your car seats fit it I strongly recommend a Joovy twin roo over a double snap in go. It is a lot easier to fold and steer. We ended up with both because of a gift and the twin roo was hands down the best option.
We chose a baby jogger summit because I run and we love it if I didn't we would have gotten the city mini double.
We have two single umbrella strollers and clips to put them together. We did that for travel purposes. Usually we'll use one umbrella stroller and I'll wear the other one when we are somewhere the double jogger is too big.
just adding another vote for the citi mini - we used ours from 6 months until almost 5 years and could take it most anywhere. it was one of my best baby gear purchases. that and the ergo.
We have a city mini double and don't use it all that often. 95% of the time we wear one baby and put the other in a single stroller (single SNP for the first year or so, and now we have an uppababy gluxe).

I had this one and loved it! Just sold it to another triplet Mom Best option for sure if you have three.

Can you get the My Duo StollAir where you live? I love mine. I had the city select with the car seat adaptors and was planning on that being my only stroller. But I didn't like that one baby was always out of my direct line of slight. So I was planning on getting the city mini double after they were out of carseat. Then I found the my duo StrollAir. It is a sbs but can also fit the car seats sbs with the adaptors! I wish I had found it first. It also can have seats facing towards or away from me or one each way. And the seats can lay flat. And the part around the seat when laying flat can be mesh or fabric. So if it is hot the mesh let's the air in. I am so in love with this stroller.
