Usuals are eyeshadow, blush, lipstick/chapstick/gloss, lotion. I've gotten a brush, eye cream, shadown base, pore primer, etc as well. The lipstick/glosses are full size but most everything else is trial. I have found a few things I love and for $10 a month I like it. Just make sure you go into your account and rate the products each month. I found it really helps them tailor my bag to my liking.
I've gotten quite a bit that I love. Considering that it's just a little more than the cost of a drugstore lipstick, I think it's totally worth it. There's always at least 1 or 2 things in the bag that I like.

they're kind of evil about always trying to get you to spam your own Facebook/Twitter for them... like the whole 'waitlist' thing is a sham to get you to give them free advertising before you even get the product for the first time.
business practices are the suck
the product itself is pretty good. I've only gotten two bags so far (signed up in December, just so you know what kind of wait you're looking at if you don't play their games) and been happy with both.

My first bag is on its way!! But yes- I completely agree w/ mominatrix re: the sham of the waitlist crap. I actually made a post (maybe on ML?) asking if ppl thought it was worth it, & for the most part, people agreed it was a cool thing to do/ rcv/ try new products for 4-6 months. I set a date in my calendar (in Oct) to remind myself to cancel
I just got my first bag yesterday, and I signed up in early April. After a few weeks of waiting, I got annoyed with the constant requests to avoid the wait by posting on FB so I emailed to cancel my subscription. I immediately got an email back saying they will prepare my bag ASAP, and I got it pretty quickly after that.
As for the actual products, they are okay. I got an eyebrow pencil that I really like. There were also tiny little samples of UD sheer glosses that can only be used once or twice at most, so that was weird. The bag was really cute, though. I'm going to stick it out a few more months because it really is pretty cheap!
I had it when it first came out and it was not very good, so I cancelled and did birchbox for several months instead. I have heard that it is significantly better now, so I signed up yesterday. I got an email that I was on the waitlist and then about 5 minutes later got an email saying I was off the waitlist. I did not do any of the silly facebook/video/etc stuff to reduce waitlist time.
I like it. I've seen more experienced types say they'd rather save their money for what they know they really want, but as a newb a LOT of my stash is from ipsy, and a lot of stuff that I would never know or think to try.
Is this where I admit I'd love a separate post (either monthly or running) for ipsy rather than in randoms? Sometimes I'm not sure exactly what everything is or how to use it, or just need inspiration. I'll get my bag and then go searching through the randoms thread.

What pescalita said. If your stash is small and you're interested in trying new brands to build your collection, it's great. I love it. And rating your bag each month is key to tailoring your selection to things you'll like. It's well worth the $10.
I signed up in April and am waiting. I refuse to play their FB game so I just emailed to get off the list as mentioned above to see if it will get me a bag sooner. So irritating.
I used to subscribe to ipsy, birchbox, and glossybox and found that ipsy was my least favorite. However this was over a year ago and I have heard they have gotten much better, so I have been thinking about signing up again.
Does anyone currently subscribe to all of these and have a preference over which is better? I loved the points you got back on birchbox for rating the products and usually got around $100 in free product a year.
I used to get Birchbox but cancelled because the trial sizes were little foil packets and non-usable things for me. Lots of lotions and shampoos despite entering my preferences. I still get IPSY, but the sample sizes have gotten smaller over time and I'm not sure what else I really want to 'try'. I'm considering canceling.
I did it the last two months and canceled. I haven't really cared for anything either time, so it's just more crap wasting space in my limited makeup/skincare storage. I did it a few years ago for a few months too. It's probably a bit better now, but not much.

pretty much this
I spam my fb page but I made it so that only I see ipsy posts.

I totally agree.
I've gotten Ipsy for about 8 months now and it's OK - some months are better than others. This month's was really good for me - 2 high end brands, 1 midprice brand, and 2 brands I'd never heard of before. I like having sample sizes because I'm a product whore.
I cancelled* mine because while I liked some of the stuff I got, I just don't want more crap around in my house. I do have a few really cool things that I love from it, so it wasn't a total waste. I have bagged up a lot of the stuff to bring to my niece. I think if your daughter likes to play dress up and you have a natural place to dump the stuff you don't want, then you will really enjoy it because for $10/month, it is fun.
* My card expired, and I didn't give them a new one because I was tired of them and had heard they are not good at canceling when you tell them to, so I figured this would be my way out. But I got an email today saying that my bag is on it's way. Something similar happened to irishbride2.
I enjoy getting my Ipsy bag every month. I'm trying to cut back on spending so it's a nice cheap make up fix for me. I didn't know about the rating thing so I'm going to start doing that. I've gotten a lot of skin care stuff that I'm not sure how to use but I don't actually mind getting it.
I got my first one yesterday! I'm excited to try things out and I love sample sizes. I do a very minimal face on weekdays so little sizes of fun or more dramatic colors and such are about all I need.
I've liked it so far. I've been getting a bag since last summer or fall. If there are items I don't like or won't use I give it to my teen daughter. The other day she asked me to buy her some eyeshadow primer. She was in luck because I have two and got another from ipsy so I gave that one to her. The lip stuff and eyeshadows are usually full size as are the blushes. I've gotten some cool brushes as well.
