I know the answer is usually yes, but hear me out.
It's next weekend. My longest run ever is 6 miles (which has been recently too, but I'm just saying I have no hidden history of long runs).
I would not "race" but dont want to injure myself either. Also can I run 8 this weekend to see if I'm cut out for it and still do the 10 mi next weekend?
ETA: Thanks for all the encouragement. I ran 8 miles this weekend and, if anything, I held back more than I should have. I finished feeling like I could have added another 2 (and not breathing hard, oops). I can feel it in my legs but not horribly so, and now I feel mentally ready (as can be) to try 10 miles this weekend. So I will sign up for the race.
Update: Y'all are so awesome. I survived. It was beautiful. And I missed my goal by a 1 min, which I consider an overall success!
Yeah I'm going to be the odd one out and say no. I mean maybe if 8 goes ok but 6 to 10 is a big jump.
Thanks, I appreciate all the views! I'll see how the 8 goes, I've got a little room to decide (till Wednesday, so I should know if I can walk from the 8 before then ). A slow 8 should be fine for me - though I admit the 6 to 10 jump sounds big to me too!

Thanks cinco! The run went great - in fact, I should have run harder. But not knowing the distance I held a lot in reserves, which was probably safer than burning myself out (so I tell myself).
If you had an easy time with 8, you will do great!
so I signed up. And then read the details that it's a 7 am race and I'm suppose to be there at 6:15. What the what? That's middle of the night to me lol.
OMG - is it somewhere really hot? That is super early to me!
no! But it shuts down a rather major street so I wonder if that's why. But I'm glad it doesn't just surprise me, it never occurred to me it'd start at 7.
This is my 5th year running this race and it is SO fun. I love it so much. Depending on your corral you don't have to be there at 6:15. Blue and purple have to be in corrals by 6:45, but everyone past that is 7:15 which should buy you some time. If you are driving, traffic getting into the museum campus can be pretty backed up so allow some time for that.

The after party is a blast. Always a good band!
Enjoy the race!
Those digits are still too early . Really though it sounds like an awesome race. I'm already looking forward to my well earned nap hah!
