My favorite books from the last few years are Life After Life by Kate Atkinson and Constellation of Vital Phenomenon by Anthony Marra. Both would be discussion worthy.
My book club has some odd choices, but books that we have generally enjoyed reading and discussing are: Tell the Wolves I'm Home Persepolis (graphic novel) To Kill a Mockingbird Gone Girl The Help Room The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

We just read Reconstructing Amelia which since it's a Mom book club made for a really good discussion. We've also done All the light We Can Not See which was good. We're doing The Nightingale next but I haven't started it yet
My old book club was really more a "drink wine and gossip because no one actually read the book" club, but the one book we all did read was Are You There God, It's Me Margaret (yes, the kids book by Judy Blume) and it actually had a great discussion. We also had a bit of success (like 50% read it) with Memoirs of a Geisha and The Secret Life of Bees.
I'm probably going to a new book club later this month/early next month, and the book is All the Light We Cannot See, which was excellent and sure to have a good discussion.
