Dire Streits "Brother in Arms" was what we listened to all the time when I was a kid. But that's from sort of the end of the record era (1985 I believe)
I would probably do Led Zeppelin if you are going for iconic. Though I do love Queen and Rolling Stones. And Springsteen's Born to Run would be good too.
Jumping in from MMM - is there a good place to buy records online? I love this gift idea so much.
If you're looking for something new or re-released, Amazon is good. For used I just use ebay. Most of the sellers doing vinyl there do a decent job of grading them so you know what you're getting. Also, if you search #vinyl on Instagram a few places sell directly through there but I've never actually purchased like that so can't speak for how exactly it works.
I don't know if it's good on vinyl, but all this talk about old school music has pretty much guaranteed I'm going to listen to Paul Simon's Graceland album tomorrow.
This is one of my must buys for vinyl. My current favorite is Simon and Garfunkel's greatest hits. I also regularly listen to Bush sixteen stone and sublime on vinyl. (No shame that after a bad day nkotb and Debbie Gibson also make an appearance but i doubt your husband wants those!)

FUCK! How did I forget Dire Straits!?!?! H loves them. UGH!
I did Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Pink Floyd (Dark Side of the Moon), Rush and Van Halen (H is s huge VH fan).
Not gonna lie, I want one of those hipster turntables in the little cases.
One year Red.Envelope messed up my order and sent one of those turntables to my SiL & BiL by mistake instead of what I actually ordered for them for Christmas. Customer service resent the actual item but they were able to keep the $500 turntable. I was a wee bit jealous. lol
So many good albums have already been suggested, but I'll add in The Doors. My parents owned most (all?) of their albums and they were definitely among my favorites to listen to.
