Is the pace reading your average pace from when you started or your current pace? Why does it take forever to get to a decent pace? For example I might walk for a minute during a run, let's say it's says i'm doing a 15 min. mile pace. Why is it that five minutes later it says I'm doing a 12 min. mile pace when I'm clearly not?
Are the newer models better as far as the above goes?
I think the 110 cannot do current pace. It can just pace your "lap," and the shortest you can set the lap is .25 miles. So it will update your pace every .25 miles. I think the 405 is the cheapest Garmin that can do actual current pace, but it has some mixed reviews on other features.
It doesn't give current pace? The pace at the bottom of my display is *constantly* changing, every time I look at it (and watch for any length of time) and very sensitive to any change in my speed. What is that showing?

It tells you projected the time you will complete the current lap. Say I run the first half of the lap at a 12:00 pace and the second half at a 10:00 pace, an average of 11:00. The pace at the bottom would tell me, towards the end of the run, that my pace was 11:00 when at the time I'm really running at a 10:00. Does that make sense?

Interesting! I never realized that, I guess. Apparently it doesn't bother me.
Well shit...call me Captain Oblivious because this explains a LOT. What I've felt like erratic pace displays make SO much more sense now. Guess I'd better start reading operating manuals a lot more closely

Ummm, I've had mine for two years and I did not understand why it did what it did, nor did I mind that much! Then I started running with my friend who has a 910 or whatever and we would call out our pace and she would say "my current pace is... and my average is...." and it would be very diffferent than mine and we were running right next to each other. That's why I asked on here!

I didn't realize it until my first half. I had a long, multiple minute bathroom stop during mile 6 and tried running faster to make up for it. Despite the faster running my watch kept saying I was running at a 13:00 min pace for that mile. As soon as it rolled over to mile 7 the pace dropped dramatically and I realized that it had been telling me that it was going to take 13:00 minutes to complete mile 6, not that I was running a current 13:00 minute mile pace.

It will display your current lap pace (whatever yours is set at...1 mile, 2 miles, etc.) based on your current pace, if that makes sense. You won't be able to look down and see that you are running 8:50 right this second, but you can see how bursts of speed affect your overall pace. I have the option of current pace on my 305 but I prefer to go by my per mile pace. It makes for less watch checking (for me anyway). When I upload my run into Garmin Connect online, I can see what my pace was at any given point on my run.

Yeah I probably should have asked ages ago...lesson learned
Also, this realization has made me want a new Garmin. My DH would be so mad if I got one. I can hear it now... "How many watches do you need?"
Same here...I got the 110 in a hurry b/c my 305 had gone (and is still) AWOL and I was pacing an upcoming race and wanted something relatively inexpensive. I may try to hold out and ask for a new one for Christmas though, that way I may not get the sideeye from J.
