We've been hanging out in our basement lately becuase it's cooler. We've seen several huge spiders down here. More than I've ever seen before. Is it the heat? Are they already making their homes for winter? Do they even do that?
Last summer I was bit by a spider (I"m assuming at night) and had to go to urgent care because it was huge. I hope these things don't make thier way upstairs!!
Spiders like to hang out where it's damn and cool. So they probably are down there since it's so hot outside. They don't hide for the winter, well most of them don't, they will lay eggs at some point and then die.
Yuck! I was scared that you were going to post a picture. DH found a ton in our unattached garage when we were cleaning it out a few weeks ago. I have a teacher friend who let her students bring in spiders in the fall in jars. She even had a pet tarantula.
I was nervous you were going to post a picture...thank you for not! How large are these spiders in your basement...if they're about the size of your palm and brown, then they might be Hobo or Giant Brown House spiders. Hobos are very poisonous while GBH aren't but they look very similar. The difference is that GBH can be found on walls/ceilings while Hobos will only be on the ground. On the plus side, if you have GBH, you won't get hobos since they can't stand each other and like the same territory.
I opened the door into our bedroom last night and promptly jumped backward and SHRIEKED. There was a largish BLACK and FAST spider on the wall just inside the door who ran toward me when I opened the door. H wasn't thrilled with me but did kill it...and then put the remains in my trashcan by the bed! I made him go empty it. I mean, it could always just be playing dead and then run out of the trash and up into bed *shiver*. There was a smallish one in my craft room that I tried to ignore since it was on the wall and walking away from me. Why are they violating the agreement?! They stay outside, I try and let them be! No coming inside or I'm going to get an Orkin man to spray
*Shudder* don't they come out more often this time of year anyways?
We had one in our room a couple weeks ago. It creeped me out so bad I couldn't sleep. I never used to be afraid of spiders, but when I was living in CA for school, i saw my first wolf spider and that did it. Now even the little ones creep me out.
i remember this was "spider season" and we weren't allowed to play in the woods by my house when we were young. when we first moved into our house i bought a "home defense" spray and sprayed all along the outside. supposedly lasts for a full year and spiders can't cross the barrier. we've only had about 3 spiders in the house in just over 3 years.
I always take my cat to the location of the spider and it is instantly taken care of, and she's a happy girl.
Lucky!! I yell at Ivan about this ALL. THE. TIME! You're supposed to EAT the spider you stupid boy, not just watch it and meow at it!
My girl loves bugs and chasing them. Flies in the house are a favorite to watch, she turns crazy. She's also been stung twice because she finds a bee before we can see what she's got.
