From what I've been reading, DS should start being able to go a little longer between feedings over the next couple of weeks. Should I expect him to start nursing longer at each session? Just curious how that works exactly once his stomach is bigger and can hold more.
He's pretty big already, over 12 lbs. Maybe this means he'll start going longer than 3 hours between feeds soon? Can you tell how much I want this?

Mine never lengthened the interval from 3 hours until he was... 9 or 10 months? He did shorten there nursing sessions from 30+ minutes to 20 at a month and then down eventually to 10 or less by 4 months.

My kid slept for quite awhile at night, so he had to get alllll the milk during the day. So he was eating every 2-3 hours during the day until 6 months at least, when we started solids. Even then though, he ate every 3 hours unless he took a long nap through feeding time.
He was also the slowest nurser ever and didn't speed up until 9-10 months when he was distracted. So they're all different!

DD nursed every 1.5-2 hours until I weaned at 8.5 months. That's not why I weaned but that shit got old real fast. I am forever jealous of the every-3-hour babies.
DS is almost 10 months and still nurses roughly every 2.5-3 hours during the day. I can occasionally push it to 4 or 4.5 if I need to be away from him or if we're out and about and he's having other food, but this isn't a regular thing.
I only BF for 4-5 months with DD but she essentially ate every 3 hours for the whole time...I want to say maybe more spread out at night but I can't remember.
I will say that I can't wait to start pumping so that DH can give him some bottles and I can feel like I can go out for a while.
Yeah, you probably don't want to hear my experience, lol. DS has only gotten faster as time has gone on. At 2 months he was only nursing for 10 minutes per session. He was however, nursing every 1.5-2 hours. He didn't get up to every 3 hours until maybe 8ish months. Now at just about 12 months he does 3-4 with 4.5 being his max most of the time. At night he usually does 5 although the past few night he has done 6ish but based on past experience I'm sure that won't last long. Depressing, party of 1.

Mine actually nursed for shorter time periods as they got older. 10mins instead of 45mins, for example. They're more efficient with age. During the day the spacing between nursing sessions probably won't change, and you'll probably still experience some cluster feeding in the evening. But if you're lucky to have a good sleeper, the night feedings will naturally just space out without you doing anything differently.
Eta: my boys both started sttn 10hrs at 6 weeks. Ds1 stopped sleeping well at 4 months and woke up 1-4 times a night for over a year. Ds2 on the other hand is 8mo and has been sleeping 8-5am straight since a minor 4 month wakeful.
