A close friend and coworker is retiring and I'm in charge of getting the group gift. Her party is Friday morning so I need things that can be delivered fast with Prime or things I can easily pick up. I have a lot of stores around me with good selections of items. I need help with ideas though.
She is retiring to spend time with her granddaughters (4 and 1.5 year old girls). We (the small planning committee) were thinking a nice basket and blanket that she could bring to the park and on picnics with them would be nice. I have $275 so if I purchase those two items I have $189 left to fill the basket. What should I put in there? I am at a total loss. Everyone here always has great ideas so share them!
I like the blanket but the basket kind of looks like a pin in the butt to actually carry. What does SHE like to do- garden, read, movies? I'd get something geared toward that.

None of those. She really doesn't have any hobbies besides watching and hanging out with her granddaughters. That's what makes this tricky. Plus, they're the reason she's retiring now so we thought something for her to use on the days she watches them would be fitting.
What about a few children's books about grandmothers?
My former boss recently retired and I got her some specialty loose leaf teas (she took me to tea when I left her office) and fancy chocolate bars. I was trying to think of something consumable since I figured she probably didn't want more "stuff."
Gift card to the play and learn cafe in Minnetonka. I've heard it's great, but I don't know if that is close enough to where she lives.
I have too, but I haven't been. I should put that on my summer "must do" list. Sadly we're on the east side and I don't think she'd drive to the west just for that. But thanks for the reminder!
Or tickets to a show for either herself (Guthrie, Ordway) or with the kids (children's theatre or stages in Hopkins).
Perfect!! I could get a gift certificate for Guthrie/Ordway for her and her husband and then another gift certificate for Children's Theater (I love Stages, but knowing her she wouldn't make the drive) so she can bring at least the older granddaughter. Thanks!
