We don't really receive gifts, but a kiddo did bring me some Sour Patch Kids on the last day this year, so yes, food is good.
Honestly, the best gift that my students have ever given me are letters of appreciation. I have a file that they go in and I can pull them out on crappy days.
Anything you decide to do will be appreciated. I think the picture you posted is super thoughtful and fun, but food is always good too.
we have a very close family friend who teaches elementary school and gets absolutely giddy about the stash of giftcards he gets. just as they start to run out, christmas rolls around and he gets all excited again.
I personally don't need additional towels and am really picky about sunscreen. I always think gift cards are the best bet unless you are unusually close to the teachers and are able to really personalize a gift. Also, most food gifts were usually thrown out at my schools (unless it was something like a gift basket packaged by a store).
I always do GC but I really believe David's teacher likes that Pinteresty crap more. She called me over in the classroom one day to rave about a little "cake" made out of school supplies that one of the moms in our class made her (it's like a diaper cake but smaller and had crayons and pencils and stuff). She said she liked it so much she was going to keep it together and display it. lol. I got her a Visa gift card. :/

Gift cards for the win.
As a teacher I do appreciate notes from the kids, but honestly I get those all day from my 2nd graders. What I really love? Nice notes from the parents! I had one from a parent that came back with a report card noting the progress his son had made and thanking me. I hung that on my whiteboard next to my computer for a long time! If I received a nice note AND a gift card? Wow, you would go down in my best parent ever hall of fame.
My favorite gift, in terms of thoughtfulness, was a tumbler filled with Swedish Fish and red Sour Patch Kids. I had mentioned at some point that red sour patch kids were my favorite and the mom picked out all the reds from a box. I'm always carrying around a tumbler of ice water so that was perfect. Probably didn't cost more than $4-$5 but I loved it's and it has gotten tons of use.
I'm going to do a tumbler from starbucks and a gift card. I want something tangible for DD to give.
We did that for Christmas and they loved it. I figure they need WAY more coffee than I do!
I was really close to getting them a pair of Kendra Scott earrings since one of the teachers comments on mine every time I wear them but the other teacher doesn't really wear jewelry and I like to get them similar things. Plus we just had Teacher Appreciation 2 weeks ago, so I wanted to spend a bit less.
I don't usually want something edible. I think that is cute, but if I get to choose (since you're asking - I'd never say this to a parent), I'd prefer a gift card and a nice note.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
