Well, in this situation anyway. Three random teenagers were hanging out on my stoop, and I told them to buzz off. Ten minutes I go back outside with D to get something from the car, and they are still there, an once again I tell them to go away. Finally, I asked the guy across the street, who apparently knows him, to tell them to stop hanging out on the stoop. Then they moved, saying, "what's the big deal, why can't we sit here," to which the guy responds, "you don't live there!"
And and last week, I told three grown women to get off the stoop, and they were from the same apartment complex across the street.
I used to only get mad when people sat on my stoop when they were loud as hell when I was trying to study. I would be annoyed if they didn't move out the way when I was coming in and out the house.
When we lived in the city, sometimes our neighbors kids' friends would sit on our stoop. I actually didn't care- especially when I wasn't there. I felt it looked llike someone was home and it made me feel safer.
BUT they were always quick to get up and move when we were coming in or out. THAT would truly have pissed me off.
If if is your stoop, than, no, not crochety. Maybe some water balloons over head next time? Just a thought. But again, my husband tells me that my patience with crap like that is totally out the window now, so maybe I am not such a good judge of this.
